cobra 200gtl, new ones improved??

I personally feel that talkback and echo are features they could leave off of every radio...that and the roger beep. One so rarely hears an echo that is properly adjusted...and it seems that some radios (such as the Cobra 200) see fit to link the talkback and the echo so you can't have one without the other.

For bands outside of 11m, my FT897D does just fine. In retrospect, I probably would have been better off with a 2970dx instead of the 200gtl, but the price differential was significant.

You can have talkback without echo. Just turn on the echo, but don't turn it up. You'll have your talkback, with no echo showing up.

Yes sir...you're right. My complaint is that if I use an echo, it is only to use a slight amount that makes the audio sound a bit bigger (or wider ) If I want to do that on my 200...I can't do it without having talkback as well...and if I'm using an amplified microphone, feedback quickly becomes an issue.

my Cobra 200 gtldx is dying

I have the "newer model" 200 and 2 weeks after I got it the NightWatch went out, now I cannot turn the channel selector to the left, the channels will not change in that direction, only to the right, I am NOT thrilled with this Cobra at all. Just sayin'

Mine is also the new board it had troubles but its working great now. The troubles with mine was rf feeding back into the audio curcit thats now fixed and radio is set at 100 watts max am ssb and no problems it sounds good and runs cool I like it for the money hell it could do30 watts max with the options it has and I would care. PUTS THE GALAXY AND MIRAGE 88-99 TO SHAME ATLEAST THE ONES I HAVE HAD. channel rejection is ok but close by base radio bleeds on 27.3750 when hes on 27.4350 nat horribly but I can hear it so I mentioned it. So far Ide buy another one of these but thats if it goes without issues so we shall see.
