Cobra 29 Plus Downward Modulation unstable carrier.

Honestly, I think it needs a good TX alignment. Get all TX chain cans adjusted for best performance and tune the radio to your antenna, and I bet it will start swinging forward again. :)

you are making this too hard. I thought you had already did the alignment. if not do so and it is so simple to verify you have the 12 volts to the board after the power switch.. have no idea why you would think you would have to tear the radio apart to check voltages after the switch. you pull the botom and top cover and the power switch is right there. what I had mentioned has nothing to do with another radio working off the same power supply and meter. it is just to verify you have full voltage. it is just I have seen radios do this and the power switch was weak. the pres washington 858 PLL radios had this problem years ago. .

Agreed.

Think it is a good idea to find out what it isn't - before you find out what it is.

If nothing else, he is learning to troubleshoot, which was what he wanted to learn - IIRC.

Not only are the TX coils a real possibility, but there may be a bad/weak cap in the final stage possible.

I haven't performed the alignment yet, yes I can poke around the board to verify the power hasn't dropped off. I still need a few things to perform the alignment, I appreciate the responses everybody.

I have never seen this radio work any other way then in the videos, as it's new_to_me.
I haven't poked around yet but tonight I will at least verify the voltage.
I wouldn't be surprised if a few caps have a high esr, or downright failed, still have to align it and probe around with d.m.m. to get the whole picture, and yes gentlemen this is a learning experience for me, troubleshooting is the number one skill in any field. Without it I could never repair an air conditioning unit or a faulty light socket. To have an in-depth understanding of how the entire unit operates including how the components interact, to make one "machine", that's the ticket.

I appreciate the patience guys, I started this thread for some tips from the experienced members, I got them.
Now the rest of the journey will be up to me, I understand that. 73 -Leap
