Ok here is the problem, i installed a swing kit and the dang radio only swings to 8 watts after its been tuned?? could it have a bad final. And how can i inprove swing/watts Thanks all #15

Thats a loaded question . What kind of swing kit ? (there's many kinds and many ways to do them ) What was it you were looking for in the first place ? What kind of meter / dummy load are you using ? What DK are you looking for and what kind of swing were you antisapating ? I truly doubt there's anything wrong with the radios final. If IM guessing this is for use with a amplifier ?

Maybe its not a swing kit?? its just a cap and resistor mod, 1000uf cap and resitor 68 ohm, mod that i found on the forum, this is the 30th mod i done on a 29s and the rest of the radios i did had more modulation and dead keyed around 2 watts and swing to 12-15 . So i dont know whats going on??? when i turn vr4 nothin happens??? What u think Switch kit.

(A cap/Resistor mod is basically a swing kit)you should have basically tuned the radio first ,(usually L14 slug comes out but not always and L12 can slightly be tweaked open but not always) then removed JP36 jumper in front of final , then put the 1000uf at 35 Volts where the jumper was with the negative side of cap facing the final , flip the radio over and put a 1 watt 68ohm resistor to both leads of the cap you just installed. (if the radios audio limiter diode has been clipped ? it will shut down the VR4 , there is truly no need to clip those with these mods) so if you have done these before with better results ? maybe it could be your final ? I honestly don't know. but it wouldn't be the first time I'd been through a few radios that certainly had beat up piss poor finals in them that barely put out much at all , so if you have done these before with better results and you have an extra 2078 laying around , I suppose it couldn't hurt to change it. Just clean up the mess the old one left , use a good insulator with a dab of heat sink compond and give her a try , other then that , I wouldn't know what else to tell you. Peace

I have a ?.My 29 is very loud but I have a problem getting out past 2 miles. If that. I put it on a ratshack meter and it said 5 swinging to 20. New coax, wilson T2000. Swrs are at 1.2 like i said before was setup to run with a TS-250. 5to20 is with power all the way up on the radio.(v-power) Also have a problem with my ears.

ps. not using the 250 anymore.

You are seeing first hand why mod kits in general are a bad idea. They make you loud close-up, but kill your range. With that antenna setup, you should be seeing 5-20 miles on a regular basis, and 40-plus in the right setting and conditions. As for your receive, it probably just needs to be properly aligned, and I mean with a quality low-level generator and a scope or SINAD meter. I use a 'scope myself, just cuz I like to see the cool wavy lines.

I truly doubt that 5 to 20 miles where I live on a tuned AM cb radio off a Wilson 1000 is going to happen very often , I mean 10 miles would be rough and tough and pretty muddy at that. I hit a guy with 9 S units from my car with a Wilson on a 100 watt DK , I shut my box off and that 9 goes to about a 3 on his base station ,and he's 10 miles away from me, I hit a guy with 5 S units on the 100 watt DK at 25 miles away ,on 5 watts I hit his at 1 S unit , so 5 to 20 miles on a tuned radio can be a lot to ask for , there are many variables to go along with it , where are you and where are they. A swing kit usually wont do 5 to 20 unless there's a variable drive involved , I personally don't see any reason for one other then to run them from a low
DK into a amplifer. If you had a box and the radio was tuned low ,swing kit or not , you will do better with a simple tuned up on the radio then. (if that's all your going to be using) I do believe SSB would be a better way to go as far as distance is concerned at around a 20 watt swing. Call it what you will.

The stryker I orderd from DTB will be here on monday. So I will send the 29 over to him. Even though its joing on the shelf. It has to be right..10-4. Thanks for the replys
