CONCERNS ABOUT 1/2 WAVE FIBERGASS =ING TVI

Checking out posts on a99 and other 1/2 wave antennas being tvi monsters. Is this true? I can't use an an antenna with radials. I checked out the maco V5/8 but those radials are out of the question. Are 1/2 wave antennas made of an aluminum or other metals any better at suppressing tvi? If so which one's. I really wanted fiberglass as the ones I owned in the past were low mantinance. Had a problem with my dipoles (my girl gave them both a haircut). I purchased a non penetrating antenna mount for the patio with two five ft masts and 8- 16x8x8 bricks that fit nicely in the n.p.m. I think there 26 lbs each. I couldn't mount the antenna on the roof so I'm going this route. Now all I need is the antenna. I usually do everything backwards so I'm right on point I once bought tires before I bought the car. Not joking. Thanks

1/2 wave antennas are not particularly prone to causing interference, no more than any other size of antenna. Probably the biggest cause of interference is how close an antenna system is to those things being interfered with. And, the best way of 'curing' interference is -distance-. If one antenna in a particular place causes interference then another antenna in the same place will too. There are a lot of 'buts' involved in that, there are always exceptions.
The fiberglass antennas tend to have a bad reputation mainly because people aren't familiar with proper installation and misconceptions/myths.
Those radials are the 'other half' of an antenna. There's always an 'other half', but it isn't as apparent sometimes. The 'other half' of an 'A99' for instance is the feed line, the coax.

THANKS

After reading posts that said the A99 through of lots of tvi it scared me. I know from my research on this site the A99 is basically an end feed dipole and visa versa. My vertical and inverted V dipole gave off no tvi in my home and Concidering my hours of operation are early mornings on Friday and Saturday the people living around me are for the most part asleep. I've read so many posts with totaly different reviews of the A 99. I like the idea its 18ft as opposed to the Imax 2000. From my research I think the 2000 may be a better antenna but the 5 extra ft don't help my cause of trying to stay under the radar. I'm gonna go with the A 99. A local shop sells them for $70. I will post the performance of the A99 compared to the vertical dipole that I was using before it ran into my girl who was wielding a large pair of bolt cutters. I plan on seeing the performance difference by not tell the people I qsl with the antenna change. I will see if thay even notice a difference. A99 it is. Thanks 4 your input.

The fiberglass "radome" is not a source of interference if that's your question.

Indeed. Fiberglass antennas are no more prone to causing interference than an aluminum ones. In fact no antenna should actually be the cause of interference. Feeding and mounting is more a cause than the antenna itself if the antenna is of sound physical and electrical construction.

in all my years of cbing i have seen more dirty amps(not built right) and misaligned radios as being the cause of tvi and other problems than an antenna being the direct cause.... bad coax(leaky) will do it too.... as for the new digital tvs if radio is misaligned it still will get into it.. case in point many people here in florida because of the FCC s pushing thought all they needed was a set of rabbit ears instead of going ahead and using the out side antenna they had already, many were getting cbers and even police radios coming in on their digital sets.... the lucky tv veiwers are on cable or the sats... there have been a few neighborhood altercations because of a magic screwdrivered radio, big unfiltered amp and cheap coax and people not wanting to miss their american idol............................................ just a few thoughts 73s midnight special

Read the other threads regarding the A99 and CMC .They are prone to the coax radiating which can cause interference as well as more noise on your rx.As for the fiber glass radome I found it did not last very long in the sun. I now tape or paint (auto rattle can )all my glass antennas before installation .

A99.

Put an Rf choke or ugly balun at the feed point.

I have ran an A99 on 10/12/ and 15 meters full legal limit 1500 watts.

The computer speakers in the shack, The tv connected to outside antenna. The TV in the living room connected to the satellite, and NEVER not once did I ever have any TVI/RFI.

It is not the best design antenna, but with proper installation it will work just fine.
