Connex 4300-300hp

Has anyone tried replacing the finals in this thing and putting 2879's in it instead of those little dorky 1446's could you do this, and if so how much could you get out of it. 500 watts w/o a linear Yay

I've done it. Not sure if it was worth it. $620.00 radio then $395.00 for the 2879. For about 150 more watts. hmmm

Ouch, I thought this was already discussed and the thought of the day was it should not be done.

BigRed222, if you have that radio don't do it. Take the 395 bucks, get an amplifier, and you will have well over 1000 watts.

Although Its fun saying that my radio has the 2879's. It really didn't do much like i said before.

It does sound very nice and I get alot of compliments on the sound of of the radio.

It does give me bragging rights that I have the biggest radio out there. 8) along with others that have done this of course.

I can get 500 watts out of it now but I have to turn up the deadkey to 300watts to get this and the 500 watts only come with a hard whistle. It modulates quite a bit lower. 350 to 400 watts.

I've got mine set 75 watts on low swings to 380 to 390 watts and on high I've set it to 150 watts deadkey swings to 425 watts.

This really is a great AM radio It receives great and gets out like all get out. Like having a base station in your truck or car.

But with the $395.00 that it cost me. You really can't buy a amp that would handle this radio. You'll have to spend a lot more on an amp. I've heard of someone that has matched this radio with a 8 pill Class C amp. Seems a little small for this radio. I'd go with nothing less than a 12 pill Class C amp. Which of course will cost you a lot more than $395.

On whether it should be or not be done. That's up to you. The amp board on this radio was designed for the bigger pills so its not like your going to hurt the amp or the radio by doing this.

Now the 4600 turbos amp was not designed for bigger pills so putting bigger pills in this radio wouldn't be prudent. Just thought I'd mention this.

But with the $395.00 that it cost me. You really can't buy a amp that would handle this radio.

But you could buy just about any radio, spend the money for a five pill or a 2X4, and have more money left with more power.

If you like what you have, it's your money, that's important.

Just different, cheaper ways to get to a similar place.

Just any radio with a 2x4 wouldn't sound as good as my connex. Maybe a connex 3300hp with a 2X4 would. or any radio that's comparable.

Sure there are much cheaper ways to get there.

the 4300-300 is such a nice packaged radio and with the 2879's it just that much nicer.

I wouldn't recommend it to someone that just wants to get out. Just to someone with discriminating taste. :shock: 8)

50 w dk gives about 200 rms and 400 peak. talks at 350 easy. aaaa 395 saved

It does well, as long as you put a good fan to keep it cool.

LOL I'd like to see the meter that does 400 watts from 4 1446 pills. :shock:

unless your talking peak to peak now that a different story. Mine will do 150 watts deadkey to 1325 watts on Peak to Peak. :shock:

put a swing kit in it and get the top end out of it..if your going that far...whats the use of not using the ills to the full extent?
