copper vertical

SUCCESS!:D:D:D
Today just before lunch I had a solid QSO with "Bert" DJ9RQ. Finally a SSB QSO with Deutschland. The band was iffy and I listened for awhile but as I listened his signal rose and rose till it was bumping 5X9. I swallowed hard and called (Auf Englisch) He came right back with the whole call first time. This afternoon while still smiling I am reworking some coax and putting my homebrew monitor scope back in operation. Endlich wieder spass. (finally again fun!) Thank you Bert as well for coming back to me.

The vertical is doing a great job for me. I have worked Deutschland several times and even had a 5x9 report. Also worked a VP5 who was doing a demo on the use of Ham radio for their Telecommunicatios dept. I was just sitting there lstening to the band noise when I heard the call. Today I worked Osterreich (Remember "There are no Kangeroos in Austria) That is a first for me. (y)

JA OK Das ist richtig, but when I was there they were selling the T shirts for tourists from a certain area of the world and that is what it said on them. I didnt buy one but now sitting at home I wish I had bought a dozen. I had though never worked Austria in all my years as a ham. 40 I believe it is now. Anyway as you may have guessed I am more than satisifed with this antenna performance.

Don -

First time I worked Austria was with about 50 watts and a ten meter dipole with the ends thumbtacked (literally) over a "V" in my roof. The wire was horizontal, maybe five feet above the roof at the deepest part of the "V". Heard him; worked him. 579 both ways.

This was from here in western WA in summer of 1972. I'd never heard such an opening to Europe before or since.

you guys want to move to the uk, austria (the one without kangaroos) appears here regularly on 11m during sporadic e.

Well it is fun no matter what.
I have two QRP rigs too . One an 80M colourburst crystal control with a 50L6. I have it on a quickie wire antenna but I dont think it is much good as an antenna. The other is a 40 M battery powered Tx, a TNT design. I havent had it on air since I haven't a 40 M antenna currently. I am wishing right now I had built them for 20 and could use this one.
