Cubicle Quad Antenna Info request

Just curious - why did the center freq turn out to be channel 30?
Were the outer wire sizes not calculated for 27.185 or there abouts?

Cannot really give a good explanation for the anomaly. I assembled the antenna in a hurry due to weather and time constraints, so I did not double-checked measurements nor tightened the wires. The elements were color-coordinated, and pre-marked by Cubex. The antenna is built like a tank, easy to assemble, and much quieter than a Maco m104c. It is installed only 30-33 feet above ground, but the elevation at my son's home is 1300+ above sea level. After connecting the coax to the driven element and sealing it with silicone & liquid tape, I performed the tests, liked the results, and left good-enough alone. Can't vouch for longevity of this antenna because it is a fairly new installation, but the quality of QSO's so far have been exceptional.

does it come from a steel tube:whistle:

Almighty gods of the American lexicon! It is humbling to see how your superior intellect soars at the heights required to find a misspelled word in this forum, as demonstrated by the elaborate jocosity you bestow upon my comment. It must be a great feeling to have reached the pinnacle of human grammatical wisdom. Pride should be your middle name. I hereby request that you find it in your hearts and gargantuan brains to forgive the human transgression of having used the word balum instead of the one that electronic geniuses like you would solely recognize as balun. As my third language, English remains a work in progress that depends on the region of the US where I will be sent next month. Nevertheless, thank you for such a brilliant, downright academic, observation. It is people like you, the self-recognized deities of the American lexicon, Ohms Law and humor (Seinfeld got nothing on you) that drive us lowly hobbyist to continue the quest to answer the mystery of what is the difference between a transistor and a capacitor. 73’s de wire dawg (¿or shall I say ‘salutations’ to the intellectual elite?)

well then; That was entertaining.....

It's a good thing someone didn't have a brain fart and mis-spell it as barium, cause that would have led to a lot of

Hey Wiredog ... on the Cubex 4 element - did the spreaders have different holes in them for the different wire lengths on the elements - or - how did the wires attach to the spreaders ??

Each fiberglass rod on the spreaders had a small hole, and each element had small pieces of tape that marked the length at which the wire would turn on these small holes. Match the color of the element with the spreader, and pass the wires through the fiberglass rods until the marks reach the corresponding hole. The manufacturer provides about 12”of extra wire per element, which allows the user to alter the center frequency.

Tuning

ok, I think I understand ....

but my explanation will probably confuse me if it doesn't confuse anyone else -

For example: director # 1
yellow spreaders go with yellow spyder thing and yellow tape on wire is marked to fit into the small hole in yellow fiberglass rod, or spreader - then go to next yellow fiberglass rod that the wire is already marked for and go in that hole, lining up the marks at the turn , etc...

Director # 2 is Green for example

IF I am close then the factory must pre-measure the elements for the correct length of the holes from the tip down -or- pre-measure the length of the spreaders, which would make more sense.
