D&A Phantom 12 tube promotion to Warrior high drive 2017

I'm back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picked up at a Omaha NE Goodwill. several obsolete 12v 50W glass enclosed Halogen bulbs.

They look like the top enclosure of a D size battery flashlight. See pics. 25 cents each.

Carefully. Using a rotary tool with a diamond cut off wheel. Cut off the halogen bulb

glass holder. Removed the halogen bulb. Chucked the bulbs in a parts box.

Still waiting for my FleecBay order of Green, White super bright high power Leds.

From a USA seller. As bad as being shipped from China it seems.

The high power LED back light in the box now does not have a reflective enclosure.

I parted out a free Harbor freight 70 lumens flash light for the Led. 4.5 volts 3 AAA batteries.

5.78v AC off yellow windings in the trannys. Simple, quick rectifier circuit. 1 diode, 1

220uf 16v capacitor, 1 1K miniature potentiometer. Thats the back light circuit.

Shoosh. Forgot the USB stick with the Pics. I'll edit another day attach them.

These glass halogen enclosures fit perfectly over the original meter hole. Could be

the first led I tried is best. 3watt and 10watters arriving. The green leds are tiny.

.99cents for a bundle of 20. Leaded with dropping resistors for 12v drive.

If U have read thru all the prose and diatribe. Off of the 4th Tranny. The heater

winding is used to power a12-15v DC power supply. Juices the soft start.

I will use some of them to light up. One to guess ?

No not my "Nostril hole" HaHa !

The nice looking Grid MA meter silly.

Stay tuned. 12 tuber promoted to Phantom Warrior 2018 !

This project is not over !
This is the busiest season yet for me working. Flooring, painting, sheet rock decks ad nu seam. Usually quits after Thanksgiving. A couple more weeks. Then back to new E bay kits. My CB's and boxes till late May.

Shoosh. New 5,000 Watt pure sine wave inverter for my jalopy. Ninety amp alternator. A new bigger battery bank. Soon 120 amp alternator. Then the POW KW+ and the Maco two piece will be refurbished. Into my little car in 2019 !

I think I found the solution for high low. 1 center tap of the "three" now 4 transformers is connected to the plate of the 1`2AQ5 key-up tube .

Obviously. All 4 center taps could be connected to the plate. Low is the center tap and a high side leg connected to the full wave bridge. High power is both high side legs.
Using the switch hole that controlled the third "Stage" relay.
A triple pole double throw switch will be installed. The unused high side legs will provide
the current for the 12AQ5.

These beasts really need a fully regulated bias supply for the GG AB2 finals.
The audio Gurus have an assortment of modern circuits for their projects.

Tedious for sure 2x regulated boards. 6 tubes each board. Each board has 6 separate
adjustments. One for each tube. LOL. I will try it. Once I figure out how to measure plate ma current at 900VDC ! Audio bias boards Cheap on scambay.

What I will try first is a sturdy board with a massive power transistor first. Connected
to the 8 final tubes G1.

To fully regulate with minimal ripple -8 or -9 volts. Starting voltage has to be higher.
The lightly used 4th transformer winding is available. But not enough.

So first I will install a fully regulated adjustable switching supply to power the 6.3v filaments. Freeing up those winding's on the mains.

Now. In series. I get the minimum required AC voltage the audiophile bias board requires.

Anyway. regulated DC filament will double tube life ! Ask the few Hams that work on amateur gear.

Low voltage wears out filament's fast. Slightly high less so.

Ive tested it. On key up. More than 10% drop with the original winding's. With a switch supply rated at 20 amps. .1%. The D&A's relays disconnect plate voltage when idling. already . This also helps to extend the sweep tubes life. Why ? re-read your tube theory !

Pics tests next post. Now some off topic gibberish.

This pretty clean 2nd generation12 tuber cost me 150.$ recently. I was dumbfounded.

When I tested the 6LQ6 RCA tall boys.As expected. Stage 1 GM . Was a hair lower

than the finals. All of these tubes would be considered N.O.S. by many tube dealers.

That"s 12 RCA 6LQ6"s. The Amplitrex tested NOS 6LQ6's that I use too adjust my trans conductance tester. Test 8100 - 8200 uhmos.

Drivers 8000. Finals 8050 to 8100. What a find !

Feast your eyes LOL. Yup this will eventually get the promotion treatment. Then for sale ! My rust bucket will be finished soon electrically.

On the project list. Grey 10 tubers to 12. Beige Phantoms to 12. All with the "Warrior" treatment.

Well. Guess U missed the previous posts in this thread.

Honestly. Depends how much drive power. The Warrior came with 4 pieces of iron. Though not a console. + 4x 6JG6 driving 4 6LQ6 which drives 8 6LQ6.

4 Watts drove 4 6JG6. My guestimate is that 75 watts RMS drove the 4 6LQ6.

Adding in "Feedthru" power from the stages. Assuming the Final Tank Coil tuned

to resonance. "Nearly impossible with the original all ham band setup" 1KW.

Any Ham who tinkers. Few do these days. They prefer. Plug and play.

Will tell you. An Amp that is dedicated to the band you want to drown in IMD.

Is way more efficient than an bandswitched amp.

Allright. 6 watts RMS in. 900W RMS out. U have to read the previous posts.

Removal of the two Stage nonsense band switch and relay. A carefully made NEW tank coil.

With the correct inductance. To resonate on 11 meters. Not 10 meters !

Tuning tweaking the input output impedance driver stage. Removal of the broadcast

radio receiver air Variable to TRANSMITTER Air Variable. yada yada.

I'll probably add a switch in the rear to bypass the impedance match circuit.

For the hell of it. Drive my beast with a one tube box at 30w to 40w. Splatter the band

full of IMD. Take a quick pic of the meter. Not even 4 pieces of iron is really enouph at

900W+ . I back the drive down to 3w for 600+. Tubes will last much longer ! Less IMD

also.
