After posting a question about purchesing my first "real" meter everyone who replyed said go with Dawia.
I'm ready to make my purchase but there's many different Dawia's that meet or are less than what I'd like to spend ($125).

My requirements are swr/watts. Pep and average. Cross needle
1-1500 watt readings.

I would like one that includes a 12 volt p/s to light the meter as opposed to it being an option ($). That's not gonna be a deal breaker as I've a few ectra one's that should work on a Daiwa.
The meter will only be used on 27 mhz (for now). Dawia mrter Model numbers would be greate. Also online store suggestions would be a huge help.
P.s. When I first got back on the air about eight month ago I couldn't locate my microna which was the only metrr i owned and hsd used from 84-87. I went to the local cb shop and paid $135 for this workman. I hate it and Will use it for a backup. $135!! Liveand learn.

You don't really need a pep reading meter, Just stick with a rms power/vswr/reflect
Thats all you need

I cannot think of any power meter that has it's own built in power supply to operate the light and power the sampling circuit. Why you say? Because about 99.9% of operators have a power supply in the shack to run their radio gear. The CN-801Hp is the meter you want. 12 volt power supply to be provided by end user.

There is want and there is need. Sometimes there is a NEED for such a meter especially if you want to determine your power output accurately and in the case of amateur operation remaining legal. An average reading meter (no such thing as RMS power) will not read anything near accurate on SSB.

I came real close to pulling the trigger on the Daiwa. Was weighing between it and the Autek, which isn't made anymore and doesn't have cross needles. Only reason I didn't get the Daiwa was I bought a Palstar tuner that had a nice cross needle meter built in. If I didn't have a tuner with a built in meter, I'd still pick the Daiwa over the Palstar stand alone meter, as it is much bigger and easier to read. Pretty good accuracy, from what I hear too.

I have the Daiwa CN-801HP (2 kw version) and the CN-801HP3 (3 Kw version) and like them a lot.

I also have the 2kW 801HP. I've used the Daiwa NS-660-P as well which is a very nice meter that comes up for not a lot of money on Ebay from time to time.

Captain. I did learn from my op that true pep reading meters require a power supply. I didn't quite understand the type of power supply that was being referred too. Now that I do, would purchesing a cross needle meter that doesn't read true pep be any different than the workman meter I own? If the cross needle non true reading pep (no power supply nesessery) meter isn't any more accurate or advanced than my workman then purchesing that type of meter makes no sence . I need to purchase a true reading pep cross needle swr meter (power supply nesessery). Or I'm just getting a meter that's similar to what I already own? With the exception of it needing no swr calibration and is a cross needle. In my op i did state that i i didn't want to spend more than $125. I wouldn't mind spending up to $175. That price reflects the fact that the power supply be include in the meters purchase or if I need to purchase it separately the total doesn't exceed $175. Thanks for all who responded.2015-06-22 15.05.53.png

I would and have purchased used item's on eBay but the meter is one item I want to purchase new and not second hand.

The power supply to run such a meter can be the same power supply that powers your radio if you have a separate power supply or it can be a small 12 volt wall wart type supply that was salvaged from something else. The current requirement is very small.

I do have several of those wall wart type supply's. While checking out some of the Daiwa's on gigaparts i noticed they sell new ones for.unde $15. I'd most likely purchase a nee one as most of mine are old and raty llooking. I have a daiwa 801hp the 2kw model it comes with a cable that attaches to the meter and you ca. Just attach the cable end to your power supply. Pretty simple. It's a real nice unit.

Mines seems accurate to 5%

My decision was easy with the excellent feedback from you guys. It's the cn - 801 hp. Unfouranetly the only power supply I own is part of the Palomar 500 elite and I only use it ocastionaly. It's about 30 lbs and wouldn't be worth taking up all that real estate. These an ebay seller who sells all types of 12 volt wall wart power supply's. Two of which are for the 801 hp. One $13 and the others $18. I'm gonna order the meter from cheapham as it's local and I like to keep my money local when possible. It's $139 from gigaparts and the ssme ar cheap ham (shipping free from both sellers). I wrote the eBay seller asking him the difference between the $13 and the $18 one. Shipping for the wall wart is also free. Weather which wall wart I chose the total price wont be any more than $157 which is the lowest price with the extra 12 volt p/s. I'm looking forward to getting it. I'm assuming if I order it tomorrow I should have it by late next week. Thanks fot everyone's advice. P.s. I read about 30 eham reviews and only one was bad. It sounded like the reviewer received a factory bad meter. We all know this can on rare occasions can happen. I'm exspecting a perfecly working cn-801 hp.
