Digital modes on 11m

FT8 would give CB new life since you can not now legaly DX 150+ miles. I played around with digital back in early 1990's but CB was still big and not at all interested in that. In fact people were moving from CB right to the internet in early 1990's. I would the idea of being able to communicate at great distances with far less power!

On any band FT8 is for those so LAZY they let their computers do all of the communicating. It takes no effort & there is ZERO communicating between humans yet so many of them still brag about how great their stations are. LOL I thought radio was about People Communicating not a bunch of computers beeping at each other? It's a Lazy World we live in so I guess it just is falling in line with the rest of the world.I hear some CW every now & then on Channel 28 as well.

Digital phone modes of operation are quite amazing. If not magical. The audio quality is far better then ssb,am,fm..but only at communication quality.
I did some 60+ mile 2m ssb from base to mobile. Even on CB it removed all static and power line noise 10's of miles beyond AM,FM or SSB range.
I would imagine the FCC would not have an issue with digital, in fact I'm amazed they haven't. My guess nobody has asked.
Anyone who has used it would swear by it.

300 baud audio modem 11m in the late '70's
SSTV on 11 isn't new
RTTY has been present on 11m as long as I can remember.
I have decodes of FT-8 from 11m

So, this is news ?

Some called 11m a wasteland when it was 24/7 populated with music, noise toys, profane drunken azzhats and the rare conversation.
11m is now called a wasteland because of it's lack of use. Go figure.

All you have to do is dig a little deeper and see that there has consistently been some sort of fringe experimentation within or just outside 11m for decades. Digital is just the the tip of pile.

Welding
industrial induction heating
Diathermy
Digital
radar(echo ranging)
rf as a catalytic fractioning component
RTTY
SSTV
Low probability detection spread spectrum
fundamental frequency for many vhf and uhf oscillators via power multipliers.

I'm sure I missed many other current uses.

Of course it ain't new...it old sh1t. And I'm sure digital phone modes have gotten better since I dicked with 'em 17 years ago.
CB is far from dead, but legal digital modes would make it interesting.

it's called QRM.

QRM? I thought that is what they called Roger Beeps,Echo,Reverb,& Talkback? All useless noise on a band that has more than enough noise as it is even on a quiet day.
Lots of people have never learned that a CB Radio is for communications & it is NOT a toy.

LOL,I have both DMR & D-STAR & the audio is far from great. They both have a slight digital robot sound & a good Analog AM or FM signal sounds far better. There are several videos on YouTube showing that a digital signal does not make quiet the range on phone that an analog signal does due to packet loss or something. I like both of those modes just fine but the audio SUCKS on both on simplex or thru the Open Spot or the repeater.
