I thank everyone for their responses and I apologize for not responding sooner. I found the answers to my questions to be quite informative and they definitely gave me some food for thought. I have decided however to upgrade my mobile mess and focus on getting my Tech ticket to feed my base station needs even if its just a handheld for now. Again I appreciate the help and if for nothing else it has motivated me to go for my ticket.
