Both are 200V 6 amp. The one in the radio is twice the size as the replacement. Should I look for something a bit bigger in size or will this small one work properly?
Thanks
Low_Boy,
Though the new Bridge Rectifier is smaller it should get the job done. Newer Electrolytic Capacitors are smaller than older ones. A sign of improved technology I guess.
Having said that, I replaced the Bridge Rectifier in my 139XLR last year and ran into the same issue. I opted to go with a physically larger rectifier. I did initially order a smaller (physically) rectifier but reasoned a larger device would spread heat better/faster. I used an MP802G but initially ordered an NTE5313.
That one should be fine. If it was in something handling high current like 20 amps or more I would say go with the larger size as it allows more contact area to dissipate the heat better.
