Does this anntenna really work on all bands?

Yes, the G5RV and other off-center fed dipoles do work on all bands, for the lowest one they are cut for, and up. But this type has no gain anywhere.

You can do better. The full wave Loop also works on all bands yet it increases in gain as you increase in frequency. Make one for 80 - although it works great on 80.... it doesn't technically have any gain there, but will show gain as you go up.

The G5RV types are compromise antennas. They will work if you can only manage two tie-off points....like any other dipole. (limited space antennas)

If you have a plenty...or at least a few trees, a square horizontal Loop (4 tie off points) would be a far superior choice.

Any antenna will 'work' on almost any band. But, very few of them will work -well- on more than one band unless it's a harmonically related band, and there are plenty of "if's and but's" even so. Does a G5RV work -well- on all bands? No, it doesn't. You'd better have a tuner if you want it to work on more than 20 meters (which it was designed for). It will not work on the WARC bands at all.

this will do the job . but you will need ether an auto tuner or a manual tuner. good luck..

Waking up a very sleepy thread...I too have just got a Yaesu 840ft.
I am not looking to transmit with it, just receive. I can hear 20 meters ok with my 11 meter antenna. However 80 meters and 40 meters is not very good.
I have limited space in my patio area at my townhouse so I am looking for an antenna that I can hang up in a spare bedroom upstairs for reception. Would this antenna work ok? Would I need to worry about tuning it?

Tallman: Correct they "work".
I think he was enquiring about length of an indoor receive antenna.
I gave him some information in that regard, and offered the "broomstick" style receive antenna. The SWL'r page refenced had multiple ideas in that regard also.

I run a EF 8010hp model here myself, one end is 55ft and the other end is 65ft and as u no it is 130ft long, seems to do well where it is..had some RFI in the shack alter I put it up but have that all under control now...but I'm like everyone else if I can better my antenna system, I'm all for it....
