Drug War A Failure - Legalize Today !!

The last justified war the US was involved in was WWII. Everything since then has been done to set a bad example, financial gain or gain of power for those on top. What happened to the days when it was acceptable to fight one ridiculous war at a time? Today we have 3 going on and no one is any better because of it that I know.

To those that think weed should be illegal. I won't even argue it. I'll just ask you if you know anyone that was killed by a driver under the influence of THC? Now apply the same question to alcohol. More people are killed by drivers texting on their cell phones then those who smoke weed. I've also never heard of anyone committing murder to get their THC fix. Not saying it never happens, just suggesting we could be spending our tax dollars on much more productive things.

Well spoken and truly stated. The deterrence factor must be addressed in the forms of education and treatment. Folks are going to do what they want and we all plainly see that no one can stop them from drinking and smoking and laughing and playing. Such is the part of the "pursuit of happiness" in a "free" society.

Some lazy parents want the schools and the governments to train and protect their children....clearly their own responsibility.

Just as clear is the blatant hypocrisy in legal tobacco, a proven carcinogen; and the worse killer of legal alcohol. No good reason, other than greed and the changing mores of civilization which allow these two while shunning marygeewanna.

Winstons and Budweisers are legal because the vast majority think they're okay-enough to be legal, along with nominal regulation. Same will happen with ganja when the approve-ers outnumber the disapprove-ers. This is the "mores of civilization" at work. Laws and regulations are fluid and change over time.

You would think that all of the hippies from the 60's and 70's would be the majority of the voting age and it would become legal. But I guess once you grow up and have children you forget your past or try to hide it from your kids. I will be honest here yes I smoked weed for many years and have only stopped due to my job. I have a 10 year old daughter that knows my past including the fact that I did 4 yrs for possesion of weed. ( I bought 3 1/4oz bags and got charged with intent to deliver) But that was my past and it made me who I am today. Would I vote to legalize...Yes Would I smoke again...probably not as I realize now how much $ I spent on it. But it is much safer in my opinion than alcohol. And yes I drink too. If my past makes someone not like me it won't make me cry as it's your loss. What is sad is that about 65% of felons are incarcerated for weed and after release it will haunt them forever as you will have to list your felony on job apps, can't have a government job and this goes all the way down to working as a village employee, you can't vote, and no more guns. I was released in 1998 and after about $15,000 and 4 lawyers and countless trips to court I got my felony expunged from my record on 7-13-2009! And this was a first offense!

Yeah, all that BammBamm and you hear stories all the time of guys having a string of DUI's, half of them on a suspended license form the previous DUI and 10, maybe 30 days in the county lock up is all they get. I don't agree with it.

now marijuana is the number one cash crop in the usa, its only legal in 15 states i believe, can you imagine the boost to the economy if it was legal in all the states?

That's a bit misleading I think.I do believe that the states that have a provision on the books for legal use of marijuana allow it to be used for medical use only and it is strictly controlled. It is still a felony to use marijuana in all 50 states without a medical permit. Some provinces here are the same. I could be wrong and if I am someone can tell us what states allow open use of it.

I wouldn't say strictly controlled. In Cali they pass out medical cards like they're dealing UNO cards.

sadly, "marijuana" is illegal because hemp poses a huge threat to quite a few major industries.
read up on the history of "marijuana", and you will find that it was Dupont and Rockefeller who were behind it. Anslinger was their lacky in the plot to scare the bejeezus out of all the parents in the nation with his "reefer madness" type propaganda tools.

this is why it will not be legalized, not because of "marijuana" smokers, but because hemp is a vastly superior industrial product for making plastic, paper, and other textiles.

if anyone wants to see how things really work in Washington DC; see the movie "Casino Jack" with Kevin Spacy. its all about lobbyists and its a true story.
very eye opening, and the end scene will frustrate the heck out of you because you find out how little power you actually have.

hemp could save this country, and if you want to be part of the solution, then donate and help elect Ron Paul.

"vastly superior" industrial product might be over-stating it.

More importantly, Connecticut senate approved pot decriminalization by just one vote.
Where possession of less than half ounce only results in monetary fine.

Hopefully more will weight the costs & benefits of keeping it illegal, vs considering the actual observed consequences of legalizing it.

You can grow marijuana to produce these products and not have the high end THC like 99% of marijuana grown now. I just can't remember if it is legal or not or if u need a speial permit to do so.

It's the same in Colorado, well in the Denver area at least because most rural communities have said a resounding NO to medical marijuana and I don't see PROCESSED drugs becoming an OTC product in the local pharmacy.

Over 80% of the pain killers produced in the entire world are consumed in the United States. It's been said that the US is becoming a Vicodin nation, but this is a bunch of BS. These drugs are being taken by a very small percentage of the total population, and if pot was decriminalized the only people adversely affected would be the dealers. I enjoy having a drink ocassionally, and it would be nice to smoke a joint once in a while without having to pay a fortune for it, or worry about getting busted for possession. Legalization will not not turn us into a nation of potheads. The heavy pot users will get it whether it is legal or not. Just like legalized gambling, when the government realizes that pot can be a big revenue enhancer, legalization will happen.

BTW, after living here for 5 years, I've learned that while a lot of illegal drugs come out of Colombia, actual drug usage here is minimal. If you're caught with ANY drugs here, you'll go to directly to jail and won't see the light of day for a long, long time.

You mean if you happen to get picked up by an honest cop that does not accept bribes or is not already on the take by the drug cartels don't you? What are the odds of that down there? Anything like Mexico?
