Dual 102 whips

Its a k10 and is srw not a dually. I don't mind drilling wholes in the bed, thats not the problem, i refuse to do it on the roof though.:glare:

My bad, I thought you said it was a dually. I must have read that in another thread somewhere and gotten confused.

I popped a hole in the roof of my $45k dually with less than 100 miles on it and have no regrets. Hell, it already had 15 holes in it for the 5 cab lights from the factory  But it's your truck we're talking about, not mine.

I dont want extreme performance, just the ordinary.

It won't be extreme performance; it would be the proper performance.

If you must, go and put dual antennas just behind the cab like the other posers do - who just want it to look 'cute' for the local girls.

But if you want the posers to wonder why your radio is more efficient than their dual whip setups; just put a mag mount on top.

The Wilson 5000 mag mount has a slick mylar covering to cover the ceramic magnet. All you need to do is put an extra coat of wax on the roof before you put the antenna on. Clean the surface of the magnet base from any metal that will find its way there - each time before you put it on.

I put a Wilson mag mount on my brand new Honda CR-V and have not looked back.

Yeah, even the mag mount will be easier to mount, easier to tune and provide better performance than what you are looking at now.

If the dual whip thing is purely for aesthetic reasons, mount them both and only hook up one and it'll work great.

The antenna on that Chevy appears to be mounted to the tool box. That's a fairly common way of doing it. It isn't bad by any means, if it's done properly. It all boils down to 'where' it is most convenient, not a huge hassle to work around.
Mounting position can certainly make a difference, but in most cases, that difference isn't going to be a super 'biggy'. Antennas tend to like being above metal more than beside metal, and definitely don't like being under metal! That's a 'ROT' (Rule Of Thumb) only.
If you think one particular place is better for you, then give it a try. Nothing says you can't change it later.

I think it's mounted on the driver bed rail, right above the wheel well.

ANYONE? :bored:

You've been given a lot of great advise here, but you aren't hearing it. A roof mounted antenna will be the best performer, but you aren't looking for performance, you are looking for aesthetics. Since anything other than the roof will be a compromise, mount it where ever you want to achieve the appearance that you are looking for. I would start on the rear bumper, or bed corner. The farther away from the cab (if not on the cab), the better.

If you ever decide that you are looking for more performance, you can move it around and try different locations until you end up on the roof as suggested.
