I have been curious.... butI just ran across a radio (used, for sale) that touted having a 10 Khz switch.

I scratch my head.... because the spacing between channels IS 10 Khz.... so.... what is the value of this? I HAVE GOT to be missing something......

its for the A channels that are not normally used on a 40 channel CB.. example 3a, 7a, 11a, 15a, 19a. There's a channel between 3 and 4, 7 and 8 and so on.

Not to sound like a broken record, but the only dumb question is the one you do not ask. Most likely everyone that reads this has had the extra channels added to a CB, or more often did the channel mod himself. The extra channel mod was done when the CB band was so full up with locals talking that you and your group of followers added the extra channels for privacy sake. Buy the radio so when the next Coronal Mass Ejection from our Sun disrupts the Internet and there's no Facebook, Snapchat or Pornhub you will have a CB in garage with extra channels in case of emergency social networking is necessary.

As has been said, if you look at the frequency chart notice the skips between channel 3-4,
7-8, 11-12,15-16 and 19-20
These were set aside as Radio control frequency's for things like RC cars and the like.
Often called RC channels or Alpha channels the 10 kc switch gets you on these frequency's.

AND .... the same PATTERN repeats the skips on all "Banded" Radios. Radios that have an a,b,c,d,e,f,g Band Switch. The same 5 Channels are skipped over in each band. So with the activation of the Switch, you'll get the otherwise skipped over channels on ALL Bands.
Example. If on that radio Band D is CB, then Band E is 40 Channels above CB 40 .... going from "Ch 41-80" or 27.415 to 27.805. With the 10kc OFF - it would skip over say 3A in Band E which is 27.435 or Ch 43. So to get to Ch 43 you would put radio on ( Ch 2) and flip the 10kc .... and you will now be on 27.435. With the 10kc off, Ch 2 E would be 27.425 and Ch3 E would be 27.445.

Thank you all for the "adjustment". I knew about the RC channels..... my thinking was just.... well.... constipated at the moment. Wan't thinking far enough outside the box!!!!!! Thanks again.
