You can be in Europe and log all kinds of "international" DX. I can almost throw rocks as far as some of the nation's are from each other there. Interstate QSOs in the US are often more distant from each other than most European contacts are.
It's not because international DX isn't possible on 11m, I have more on 11m than the Amateur bands so far, but that the tendency to disparage interstate comms is so prevalent. As far as I'm concerned a contact hundreds of miles away is the same no matter whether it's in the Eastern, Western, northern or southern hemispheres.
