I bought an Earphone and Adapter to plug in to my Realistic DX160 receiver, but when I plug it in I only hear on the right ear and nothing on the left. They work OK on a Cell phone. Do you know if they take a special adapter or do I have an internal problem? Al

You are trying hear stereo from a mono output.

Like above have replied, an adapter
(very cheap from Rat Shack) or change the earphone
plug from stereo to mono.
The adapter from RS is under a $1.00.

I still have a problem( Whats New ). I ordered an adapter but it is still the same. Only one side works. Can anybody please tell me if I cut the wire on the earphones what color wires I hook to-gather to end up with Mono earphones? Please make it simple. Al

The DX-160 has a mono headphone jack commonly called a tip/sleeve connector (T/S).It is 1/4 inch in diameter. The typical headphones or earphones are stereo or commonly called a tip/ring/sleeve connector (T/R/S) and are only 1/8 inch in diameter. Are you sure you got the proper adapter? You didn't just get a 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch stereo adapter did you? That just reduces the size and does nothing else. You need a stereo to mono adapter that also reduces the size if you need the size adapted as well. If you want to cut the ends and rewire you can do that as well. Cut the end off and unwind the ends of the wires a bit. Solder all the shields together and connect to the sleeve of the connector. Take all the wires that were inside the shields and connect them all together and connect them to the tip of the mono connector.

Thanks Friend . I ordered the Mono to Stereo adapter, but when I contacted them to see if this was the right one they have no proof of my purchase. I don't have the right # for them, so I'm going to try your fix. Hope I got it right. You say to take the shields ( Not sure what that is ) and solder them to plug. Can you be a little bit clearer on that. You are talking to an OLD dummy. Al
