Easiest Towers or masts to put up and take down?

Not too hard to start with, but it does get harder the higher it goes. :) If you have to do it very often, you wouldn't like it.

(Dang sure'll build up some upper-body strength though!)

You can try this

Extension ladders make great temporary antenna supports like at field day or while experimenting with antennas etc. Several years ago we used a 32 foot extension ladder to support a six element 6m yagi on field day.

Do they have to be guyed if they are attached to a single story house?

Guying.
It depends entirely on how much support is needed by the pole (and what's on it), and how much is provided by the house. Guying any pole is a good idea! That's more a mechanical property than anything else. It's very seldom that there's ever too much guying, it's just good sense, you know? :)

If you run one of those telescoping masts up the side of your house and bracket it at the peak of the roof....how far above the roof can you go without out needing guy wires?

I have a PDL-2 I want to put up.

I just put up my 30' pushup pole.
What I did was took 2 -1 1/2" x 3' metal pipes and drove them in the ground with the push up pole sandwiched in the middle and drilled a hole through all and put a rod through.
I had the 30' pole with the 18' antron 99 antenna lying on the ground and just stood it straight up quick and easy.

I would like to be able to do it that way but I live in a sub division where the houses are too close to do that......the closeness of the houses is one reason I think the push up mast/tower would work here.

edit for typo.

One thought would be to do that pivoting parallel to the house, not away from it. I'm sure there are "but's" to that, but it might 'fit'.
