eBay new payment system

The sky is not falling, mankind is falling.

With respect to the sky falling or world ending, you must have me confused with A.O.C. Now, as you posted that video, did you notice the "Wuhan Institute of virology" is sitting right in the background? Did you notice this building has less walls than windows and many are open? Do you think you could find any trace of a US virology lab, working under such dangerous conditions? It doesn't necessarily have to be intentional, to be reckless and manmade.

Are you aware that international treaties identify this lab as the ONLY one in China, able to work with a virus this infectious? But of course, they had nothing to do with it. It was those damn bats. So what if the lab was working on the exact same virus at the same time. It's not them and just a coincidence... Believed no informed, independent thinking person, ever.

The original question was, I believe, why eBay requests your Social Security number and other personal identification questions.
While eBay is not a bank, Synchrony Bank bought certain financial aspects of financing..
You also must pay taxes as a seller, that comes as part of the sellers fee.
As such, in order to protect themselves from scammers, non-payers, and the fact the eBay credit card is a bank card, you are asked these questions, in order to maintain contact with you in case you attempt to commit a fraud, just like any bank does.
It's standard banking procedure.
Synchrony is a bank formed in the 1930's, and is a part of the GE Corporation.
It also protects you in that the PayPal accounts are insured by the FDIC.
It is not a plot to control anything you do.
If you don't agree with these large companies, just sell or buy from other companies.
But, they also request your information, for the same reasons.
It beats meeting up with some nefarious stranger in a mall parking lot while buying an item from Craigslist, that offers you no recourse if you get an item that is not as described or just someone else's junk, like is quite often the case on eBay.
At least the buyer has recourse.
And yes, a minority of buyers do make claims against sellers, and they do drive fees up.

Your spot on there Shadetree, these are getting to be crazy times in this world. An yes I do believe covid-19 (84) is being used as the vessel for some of these changes.
TC, totally agree. Just look at our wantabe dictator hiding in his government paid "cottage" .

Edit: Back to the original topic. EBay is not trustworthy. First and foremost, they want there money regardless of the transaction. If they keep your money for a few days, they make money off of that in the form of interest.

Might be gettin a ebay 1099 with the current admin ..... They gonna tax the crap outa everyone ... Count on that .... and I agree, ebay sucks right out loud, I quit them 10 years ago.

I still sell on Ebay but haven’t done so in a few months. Usually gun related doodads and parts....holsters, scope mounts, pistol grips, etc. Have a box full I plan on listing next few weeks.

If I am required to give Ebay my Soc. Sec. Number I’ll list the things on Gun Broker or in Buy/Sell section of one of the firearms forums I’m a member of. I do that at times also.

Ebay usually brings more $’s though even with the seller fees they have.
