El Cheapo BM800 Condenser Microphone

Got it all setup today. Played around with the settings to where I think it sounds OK. Made numerous 40 meter contacts. Everybody said it sounded great. A few were very pleased with the performance. I used the included USB interface and made a few contacts with my ELAD. It performed very good. My son used it to record a YouTube video. Thinking of getting one for his room

I got bored last night and almost bought a PR40. I'm glad I didn't. So far, I am more than happy with the BM800. I hardly have any money invested in it. Not only does it sound good, it looks good in my shack.

Can't beat the price for what you get. Even if you hate the mic, everything else that comes with it can be used with something else.

Get ya' one.

I know it's apples to icoms but the pr40 may have needed an external mic preamp. I plugged mine into a ftdx1200 just for grins and had to run the compressor to get enough gain on ssb. The compressor can not be enabled on AM and the rig would not come close to 100% modulation.

I think @Road Squawker found a Twin

Cool setup.

If you start getting RF in your Audio....

Check for the Pin 1 Problem...

Pin 1 on the XLR (Shield) tied to the Circuit board/Signal Ground on Pin 3

MXL Microphones (especially the condensers) are famous for it...

As are most Audio processors...

(yes, I learned the HARD way and spent a LOT of time fixing the issue on a Bellari RP-503 Mic Preamp)
