Trump Signs Executive Order to Prepare for EMP Attack

President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Tuesday directing the federal government to prepare a coordinated response plan in the event of an electromagnetic pulse attack (EMP). The order described the enormous damage such an attack could cause and noted the U.S. government currently lacks a coherent plan of action for responding to one.

He needs to insist on preventative measures. That is what is needed not a plan to respond. The response would be marshall law and a complete shutdown of all human movement and that would be followed by measures you can't even begin to imagine.

On that note......reminds me of the latest one......that took 2 years and lots of dollars spent......but taking out SCADA is baaad! I work petro-chem, the control valves that control flow on pipelines are connected to SCADA. Have a friend in FAA Radar that knows how bad something like that would be.

EMP is a very real thing. Aircraft that fly by wire will drop out of the sky unless the system has been "Hardened" against it. That is one of the reasons why the USSR still is using Tubes.
The Eastern coast of the US was knocked out by a solar flare, fairly low power vs that generated by a nuclear blast.

Most of the old backup systems have been decommissioned or sold off as scrap. ATT has removed all the old microwave links and shut down most of the underground facilities that were nuke proof. Not to mention they sold all the under sea transmission lines to India. International airports have removed all the high power HF gear used to communicate with planes in favor of satellite. Utility companies have ignored the EMP problem so long that even a natural solar flare makes us vulnerable.

One natural solar flare already produced an enormous EMP more than 100 years ago and it wreaked havoc on the only wired system in the nation at the time. The telegraph system had so much energy induced into it that operators were still being shocked after it was powered down in an attempt to prevent further damage. If that happened with today's power grid, we wouldn't see a complete restoration for years. It could destroy every distribution transformer in the effected area. The manufacturing facilities that build those transformers couldn't come close to meeting that demand.

For those who think this is not a serious threat, remember our enemies don't have to progress to the point of building a nuclear missile with reentry capabilities. For years we have been falsely led to believe that countries like North Korea would have to develop reentry procedures to threaten us with a nuke. The truth is you don't need reentry to deliver an EMP. It works best when delivered at high altitude before reentry. It is a nice change to have a president that doesn't view these threats from a head that is buried in the sand.
