So the guy thinks that in order to get out good you need lots of swing? Try telling that to the big shortwave broadcasters. They really get out good with lots of carrier and very little "swing". In fact most SW b'casters used to use full carrier power and only modulate it to about 80-85%. The BIG carrier is what delivered the signal and the lower modulation was more than enough and was easier on the modulator tubes as well. Most stations ran new tubes in the modulators and after a period of time would move them to the RF amplifier section and install new ones in the modulator section. If I want to clobber a big signal I'll use a big carrier and if I want "swing" I'll switch to SSB.
