Export/10 meter radio with good receive and static rejection?

I just remembered something from my childhood. A kid I used to hang out with, his dad was a ham. He was a prick to me on several occasions over the years. When I was 12 or so I had just got into CB radio the year before and was studying to get my ham license. I went to ask him a question about his ham equipment. Before I could even finish my sentence he told me while practically yelling that you need a license to talk on it and if he ever saw me touch it I wouldn't be allowed to go over their. Being emotionally upset with him scolding me I just walked away. Another time they had just got a second VCR and had them connected together. We asked him if they could make me a copy of their Pinokio and Lady and the Tramp VHS tapes. He went on about how it was illegal and violated copyright laws. After he walked away I asked his son if he could maybe sneak me a copy. He came back and said "I know what you're doing", yelled at me about what a horrible kid I was and how he only let me hang out with his son because he knew he was smart enough not to listen to me. I started crying after he left. Shortly after that I stopped going over there in part because they wouldn't let me go in his sons room even still because I accidentally broke the needle on the sons record player 5 years before trying to remove some dust on it. By age 16 I would have cussed his ass out and told him off, but he got away with it because I was a kid and still innocent and I was raised to respect adults.

My parents saw the dad at Walmart while they were getting their tires done about 10 years ago. My dad said the dad was talking to himself and laughing like a crazy person. The son I used to be friends with died of pneumonia a coupe of years ago. I guess people do get it in the end. Anyway this "if you remove the tag on your mattress you'll go to federal prison" mentality with some hams reminded me of that prick dad.

It's amazing how some people are about people using real ham equipment on CB, even though that equipment often sounds better and causes less undesirable interference than most CB's out there. Look at the filtering on most CB's and look at it on a quality ham rig.

I saw a post on Radio Reference where the hams told a guy he needed to throw out a perfectly working HR2510 he came across because it had been modded for CB. They told him if he used it he could lose his license bla bla bla. We all know that was total BS even though it is technically possible if he used it on 11 meters, but not just for ham use. As a ham you can legally work on you own radio including modding it for CB, so long as you don't talk on it on the CB bands. However even if you did no one would know or care. I talk to hams using Icoms, Kenwood,Yaesu's...... all the time. 11 meters was once part of the hams bands. The second harmonic is near the VHF low TV band which isn't even used anymore. Otherwise 11 meters causes no more interference than 10 meters where you can run up to 1500 watts. The FCC doesn't allow more power because they know it would be abused and would be hard to regulate. Anyway I should have the new radio in the next few days. I'll post my experience including a video of its performance on air soon.
I don't fully understand your last two posts, but I hope you get that worked out

Relax guys. I was just pointing out that some hams worrying about things that are not really enforced under the law, like that HR2010 needing to be thrown out and that prick father about bootlegging a VHS. I'm a ham myself. It's all good.

I have found that both CB'ers and HAM guys/girls alike can be aholes. It's not the hobby, it's the person! Take away the hobby and the person is still the same. But hey we all have our own opinions about things. To All, have a great day.

I got the radio today and the receive is so much better than my Cobra 25 or Lincoln 2. Before when I would drive around my neighborhood I would get 3 to 5 and even sometimes 9 lb of noise in some spots. Now it is almost the same everywhere I go with practically no static. I got on the main highway and the worst the static got was 3 lb vs 9 before. I could hear people talking on 19 and even got a radio check in a high static spot. Before if I heard anyone there, there would be static in with them unless they were very close. You can hear the electrical noise trying to come it, but the NB knocks it out. The receive of SSB is amazing. The signal meter reads as it should with a slightly better signal showing on people I normally hear. The overall receive is much clearer. The pitch of the background static is higher than the Lincoln using the high cut. The low pitch setting helps, but it is still a little rough on the ears, a different speaker will probably help.

The radio out of the box had very little audio and swing on AM. When I say very little I mean not even a watt of swing. I turned the AM audio up a little and it started to swing as it should from say 1 watt to 15 watts or so. For some reason I can't find a sweet spot, it is either a lot of audio or very little. So I just keep the modulation on the front around 12 o'clock. I turned the AM wattage up where it dead keys just under a watt all the way down. Out of the box it was zero all the way down.

As for the microphone, it came with an Icom mic. While I'm sure it sounds great on SSB, it sounds bassy and muffled on AM. I put the Xtream mic on it using a 4 pin to 8 pin adapter and it sounds great, about the same as the Lincoln.

Thanks for all you guys' help. This is just what I was looking for. Other than the receive I like the Lincoln 2 better, but the receive alone on the Lincoln was a deal breaker. No point having a radio if I can't hear people.
