I don't think it has any brand or markings on it other than some factory stampings. I researched it when my father gave it to me and came to the conclusion that it was a Webley but it could be Enfeild I am not sure.

Firearms are interesting. Solutions to using that tool aren’t always obvious, and this is past the need for the tool in the first place.
I’ve limits on my interest, is all.
I wouldn’t have thought it necessary to highlight this, but maybe I was mistaken.
Forgotten Weapons, is an interesting series, but I’m not motivated much beyond maybe reading online articles.
BallsticsStudies, is another. Helps narrow thinking.
NavyMatters, is yet another. Takes in a far larger swath.
Reading around satisfies curiosity fairly well, when one aligns Tools and their Use. Putting pieces together (German naval raiders, Seagull, or, Wolf, cases in point) is — in my opinion — where things actually get interesting enough to want to follow upon.
Hand over the documents of command and don’t expect to hear back from a ship of war loosed upon the planet.
Now we’ve a subject worthy of a lifetime.
While it’s not mine, there’s yet NO avenue or byway within mans range of understanding that is closed as point of entry. Lullabies or nuclear physics. War is definitory.
As to personal weapons? There’s no one really willing to know given the cost.
That said, with handguns it’s reliability, and available ammunition. They can’t do much in spite of distracting tales to the contrary. If they could, they’d be primary arms.
With rifles, it’s much the same except where fundamentals about Use are clouded. Col Cooper does the best job, here. Wartime AND Peacetime the single “best” caliber round (effectiveness) is a narrow range.
It sure as hell doesn’t include .223/5.56
What’s left is Reliability. Actual record beyond the reach of the logistics supply train where grenades, mortars, artillery & air support don’t exist
What that may be (Round & Rifle) I leave to your own set of ideas or proclivities. Same as with handguns.
(May they remain as they’ve been domestically since April, 1865.)

I like .223, but I like .222 better. It is a demonstrably better cartridge.
I don't like the current thinking that a fast twist and a 60+ grain bullet are the way to go.
The worst hunters I've known have tended to have the most powerful rifles, yet I was always having to help them track wounded deer. Meanwhile Eskimos regularly kill bears with .222 Remington and .22 Hornet. And there's a guy on the Cast Boolits forum whose wife successfully hunts mule deer with a .22-250 loaded with a 55 grain cast bullet at less than 2000 fps. Basically, .22 rimfire magnum ballistics. A bigger gun doesn't make up for skill.

WEC , Not sure on that , I like 223/556 maybe it's me & that caliber is drilled in my brain ..... From Some Place ! A correct placed shot works well , Iv'e shot Deer w/ a 22 cal CCI Stinger ( Head Shot ) 222 & 22-250 ( My original choices ) too much noise Shooting out a Bed Room Window . Plus myself , I think they " Kick " more ? Np's w/ a 22 here Harvesting a Deer ( or 2 ) , even took one w/ my Ruger 357 w/ Rhino Rounds on a Dare , we know how that works ? " You can't hit that thing w/ a Pistol from here " ! @ 66 years old I'm trying to think how many deer Iv'e harvested ? No lie 1 year here 8 Legal Deer according to RI Tags . I keep 2 a year & donate the rest or just make the person I give it to $ the Butcher Charges . The season is starting here & Freezer still has quite a bit , time to get off my Butt & start cooking Venison ! Stay Healthy & Safe ! 73 & God Bless ! Leo

Friend of mine several years ago started hunting with a New England Firearms Handi Rifle .223. For those that might not know, that rifle is a single shot break open like a single barrel shotgun.
He put a Leupold scope on it and zeroed it in with Federal Fusion ammo. He's had great success (luck?) with it and only takes high shoulder shots.
I've never shot a deer with a .22 of any variety. Just not my thing. Have no desire to do so. My deer hunting currently rifles range in caliber from .257 Roberts to .35 Whelen with a .270 and a few various .30 calibers in the mix.
Here's the last deer I shot....35 Whelen with hand loaded ammo.
Youngest son (right side of picture) killed this Black Bear last season. Head shot from 30 paces on the ground. One shot from Mdl. 94 Winchester with 170 grain ammo.
For the record he has bigger balls than I do. Both of them...son and the bear.

I had one of those Handi-Rifles in .223 for awhile, but extraction wasn't 100 percent with the rimless cartridge so I traded it for one in .45/70 which I still have. I also have one in .357 Mag with the Choate Survivor stock on it. I've loaded 280 grain cast bullets in that one; same bullet I use in my Whelen.

Call me a dinosaur, but it's kinda like those new twin turbo small displacement engines they are driving in SUV's. Don't know if you guys get them over there, but in Oz they are becoming the norm.
Never been a fan of small calibre high velocity stuff, like engines, I like big bore and slow moving. Last forever and puts a smile on me.
