FINE TUNE CB SHOP FOR REAL?

I can't make out the slug chop. It does appear to be in pep mode but I'm not sure why a pep kit is necessary for a man with a scope. I use a standard bird 43 and adjust the modulation with a scope. If I can't hit 100% modulation without waveform distortion I reduce the carrier and try again. A pep meter really doesn't serve a purpose here unless you don't have a scope.

Agreed. that's that way to do it.

I can't see it being that clean on the spec analyzer at 35 watts with those baby finals. Also, unless I'm mistaken a single tone test is not sufficient for an accurate IMD measurement. The waveform tells me it's only a single tone. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are not wrong. That waveform is indeed from a single tone test and a single tone test is not suitable for testing IMD or true pep power output.

There are no other size bird or coxial dynamic slugs that I know of. Is it safe to say the super clean videos are shot with piss weak power as I suspected?

That was my suspicion as well. BTW the image of the meter is low resolution and when I blow it up to read the slug it is too grainy.

reactance can never be at zero though that's the problem.
Any wire automatically has inductance and capacitance and therefore inductive reactance and capacitive reactance and we're not even including the load in the equation.
The best we can ever hope for is for those two things to cancel each other out ( and that will only happen when that cable is resonant at a given frequency )
and even if they cancel each other out that doesn't mean they don't exist. In other words just because you don't see it with your antenna analyzer doesn't mean it's not there.

Check out this interesting article on capacitance and inductance per unit length.
http://www3.nd.edu/~wzech/CoaxialTransmissionLine.pdf

You are correct. there will always be some reactance. Matching at the antenna makes the antenna system as a whole resonant. even though the antenna itself is Not resonant by making a conjugate match.

RPC do you have any video clips of the cobra 29 with the old coffin style mic being used ?

20 miles vs 40 miles with 4 identical galaxy 99's. Two done by Mark and two done by Jack Thurston. Similar results with David Bupp and Russell Clift AB7IF
( all of whom are excellent technicians by the way )

Interesting. Do all these techs have shops ?

The only coffin mic I know of is the "Truck King 56" and it sounds just like a Telex Road King 56. No I don't have videos of that mic being used since the guy with the Cobra 29 doesn't own one.

Jack aka Freecell lives in Idaho and might still do work occasionally.
David Bupp aka DTB Radio has a shop in Carlisle PA and has child porn charges pending.
Russell Clift AB7IF died last year.
Thanks.

I like the old coffin style cobra stock mics

Jack was almost as bad as your buddy Mark in terms of arrogance. Not only was he banned off this site, he also ran off with someone's money and radio that was sent to him for repair. His Amateur radio call sign isn't on the FCC data base anymore. He's long gone, or is he? Last I heard he's back to selling vacuum cleaners door to door! :D

And to think this guy was on the ever venerable so called " white list CB shops " .

Jack has definitely been humbled by Mark. They talk frequently. Jack is very skilled. He took money from a friend of mine also. Old news.

Being a CB newbie in the USA i thought I'd chime in on this one. I've seen many videos on YouTube, this particular chap ( Hardrive) tends to stand out the most for me, the reasons being, he gives me the impression that A: He's approach to tuning is different to others and B: quality of output trumps power numbers. These are the two main reasons I'm attracted to use him in the future should the need arise. Not his sexy voice ( no homo ) nor his well groomed nails.
