fransis 8 ft moble antenna

I don't have an answer to your question, but I have a question that may help someone determine an answer to yours:

Are you asking about a CB28 or a CB50? There may be a difference in value between the two.

If it were I, I would keep such an antenna for base unit use. I'd be afraid that it would break in a mobile application. Fiberglass, in my experience, can get a bit brittle with age.

I will have to check. I can get ten of them and will sell eight. I will call him now and see. Thought I could use 2 of the for a dipole for the rv.

They are 28s Im getting 9 of them and they will be for sale! Still want to know which is best.

I did some quick Googling on them, and apparently the 50's have better power handling capabilities. However, newer 28's are the same as the 50's, I guess due to manufacturing costs.

Actually, all the useful info that Google handed me, led me right back to this site, so you could do a search within this site to find out more.

Still saw nothing pertaining to value, though. I imagine that someone far more knowledgeable than me will show up shortly, with far more useful information.

Thanks my friend. I told the guy l wanted them. Going to get up there next week. He also has some siltronix and pal vfo if anyone is looking. Slim I'm sure shipping would be a pain but if your wanting one I would make sure you got one for your trouble and thanks.

Mr Clean, you might want to read the following link to a post I made sometime back about chatter on the old style Francis vs. the similar antenna built by a new owner of the design rights much later on in time. The story was the new antenna was a failure in construction, but to be fare the story needs to be verified or checked again and I have no links except what I wrote below.

Francis Amazer Patent info.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware there were cheaper ones made after francis sold. I will do some more checking before I jump. I would buy you beer if you were here!

I might pick up 2 of these now knowing they are not originals. I have not called him yet so if any of you are wanting one to try let me know in the next few days and I will get you one if I can. It would be 25 plus shipping.

Mr. Clean I hope you are not using the information I posted as indicating for sure the antennas you're looking to buy are not originals...that was not my intention.

I have no way of knowing what you have looked at or the source of the antennas. This was just a heads up regarding an article I once read...that reported to be the words of Richard Francis regarding the sale of his company and the antenna rights.

With that said, how do you know these antennas are not originals?

I thought that model number was for the new ones. I would think it would say which company made it on the label. I will have to ask. He's a hour drive or better but I will find out by phone.

She said the label says francis industries. And the labels look very old. I guess I'm still not sure. Nothing about barjen on them so thats a good sign.

I appreciate the thought, Mr. Clean, but that would be a rather odd sized package to receive at my UPS box, and I get neither there nor home very often, to conveniently pick up deliveries.

I'll probably kick myself, later, for passing it up, but I just wouldn't want it sitting around outside, or getting in the way at the UPS store, for 6-8 weeks.

Thank you, again, though.

Well that is a good sign. There are several discussions on this forum if you use the Search feature at the top of the main screen.

I don't remember how the antenna was sold back in the day, packaged or loose, but the fact that the antennas or packaged is a good sign. Let us know if the antennas are marked, OK?

Keep us posted on your progress.
