Hi everyone. I've been away from the forum for quite a while.

I have a Yaesu Ft-847 that I have just discovered is no longer transmitting on the HF bands. I would like to get it repaired, and I am seeking recommendations.

I am in Illinois, and would love to find somewhere to get it repaired where I could drop it off and pick it up rather than ship it.

Or is shipping it to Yaesu the best option?

Thanks.

More info... I have determined that the problem is SSB mode in all bands, not just HF. AM and FM seem to be working in all bands, HF included.

So no SSB TX on any band, UHF, VHF, HF.

Radio that age...best to call Yaesu repair in Calif...see the Yaesu USA website for info.
(No shops in ILL...I can think of that I would trust IMHO)...
Well See below...no recommendation but that does not mean they don't do good work...???

Have you tried a reset of the radio if it's capable of being done?? Might be worth a try. Might not help squat. Hope you get the radio fixed. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I dropped the radio off at WillCo up in New Lennox, IL a couple of hours ago. He said it might be a couple of weeks before he can look at it, but he seemed confident that he can diagnose and repair it. He has mostly very good or excellent reviews on Eham.

Good to know as I have one also not that it's giving me any problems. Good luck .

This is a delayed follow-up to this thread. Jack got my radio done. The SSB TX problem was with a user-installed (by me) filter was shorting to the chassis. He dealt with that, cleaned the radio very nicely both inside and out, and did a pre-emptive fix on the power switch to make sure it does not experience a common failure down the road.

The bill was just under a hundred bucks. I am pleased. It has been a few weeks and everything is working well on the rig.

I am especially glad to know there is a place within a couple hours drive wheere I can hand the radio to someone and then pick it up when it is done. I HATE shipping radios. Had many awful experiences with that.
