Full 1 Watt Blue Laser Pointers Down to $200

My neighbor has small laser that takes two AA batteries, it will project the beam to a barn at 400 yards away.
The beam is green and he paid just $30 for it.

There is lots of them lasers on market now and I see there is also one that will produce a "purple' color.

Yep.....it is probably the common small ones which are 5mw and you can buy them anywhere. The 5mw size is the only one still legal on eBay and they've been flooded with them for years. I suspect that it take AAA batts rather than AA and at $30 I'm afraid he paid too much. $5 or less on ebay and many other places. You can get the 5mw Purple/Violet ones on eBay too and of course the older Red ones. All cheap.

And that small one he has will go further than 400 yards too! Should do over 2,000 yards. They are still neat even for lower power.

I've had a 200mw for 5-6 years and that baby will put on a real show! I've talked with a fellow who has bought one of these big blue ones that I'm referencing here and he likes his so I've got one coming. He states his is cutting paper and popping balloons at 30 feet. There's your WOW factor. My 200mw Green will pop black balloons at 15 feet.

The 1 Watt Blue ones have come about, and so cheaply, because they are using the blue diode technology borrowed and mass produced, from the Blue Ray Disc Player scene.

I think you are right - probably is AAA battery's that my neighbor has. You are also right about going farther than 200 yrds - I now remember him putting it on some trees that I had lasered to be 1000 yds.

I have been looking at Lasers for a couple years now, was wanting to get one for setting my corner post on my property.

QSL funny you mention that. I have some land surveying experience too. Yep surveyors definitely using lasers for straight-line arranging and they're built into Electronic Distance Meters.

So you certainly can point out your straight lines with a laser but will still need a good method for measuring distance very accurately.

Good luck!

whats the purpose of having such a laser??dont ever point one at a passing airplane or heli .you would find yourself in jail in short order .

Federal prison and for a good reason. I've had it done to me, it's dangerous as hell.

no pets here .yes i could see a cheap one for playing with the kitty ,but what about the hi powered one spoken about ,whats the practical use?

popping balloons and cutting paper would probably get old pretty quick ,theres got to be more .

Well, I guess one could amuse themselves taking out the occasional pesky fly.
But for $200 for 1 watt; does this mean for a '20 watt death ray gun' will be $4000 and just be around the corner?

Modulate the power supply voltage, use a photo cell as a detector and communicate in the terrahertz region. Hams have done this many times and over great distances on a clear night.

Check out the product description.
In part it reads, "It will easily pop balloons, cut electrical tape, light matches,..."

Nice

Yes they will. These type lasers, any color, start generating heat around the 55mw level. So the higher you go above that the more they will do and at further and further distances.
