Very O L D gear; most of us use laptops tethered to a cell phone using GR3. Not to be forgotten, that we are also on the weather net on either 2 meters or 70 cm to local agencies and the NWS as well...
Nobody that I know of uses the live radar/real-time system. They do have their advantages though; as data-fed systems have a lag time. Sometimes as long as eight minutes. Problem is - a lot can happen in eight minutes. Or even four minutes - for that matter. Most real-time radar systems take about 180 seconds for one 360 degree sweep. In reality, it is better to have a real-time system. But many lack the finer points of data that are necessary to understand what is happeneing. So, there are trade-offs. Data is still better with the laptop, GR3 software, and a cell phone tether.
