I just bought a new Galaxy 959
It is weak out of the box
Any suggestions on upgrades would be appreciated
And what's the best echo board to install in this radio

Never seen a Galaxy radio yet that didn't benefit from getting a proper alignment. Seems they all do very well after they get that done. Had a dozen Galaxy radios over the last 7 years and still have them all. But every one of them I've aligned myself and all of them are xlnt on both AM and SSB. Drifty on SSB - yes - but otherwise solid.

I would go with the RFLimited brand of echo units, as they have a quality processor compared to other brands that will deliver top audio performance. . .

Or just get a RF limited 2018 extreme mic and use that. Just about if not the same features as having the board installed. Just some food for thought.

Well the 257 is trashed...I got it back and was told it will cost more than it's worth. I bought the 959 with the Viagra board and diode swap along with a new ec2018 extreme Mic wired for it for $175. He offered it at $150 if he got to keep the 257 for parts but I just couldn't let it go.

Damn. What did he tell you was fried?? The volume control and what else?? Did it take out the CPU as well? Just curious. Sucks to have to get another radio but it happens. I wish the QC was better with the magnums, that is why I took mine out of the truck. It is a good radio, the 257hp, when they work right, but the controls and such left a lot to be desired IMO. I'll never part with the one I have left. Don't use it often but it is a good one. No issues for 3+ yrs. At any rate, hope your new radio meets your needs and serves you well.

Yeah most likely the CPU went. The other parts are still good though. I use the one broken one as a donor radio in case my last one fails. As long as you are happy and back on air, that is what matters!! Sucks but at least you were able to get another radio quickly and also the mic. Have fun with that 2018 mic. It is a great mic even with no echo. Anyway, have a good one and again, have fun with the new radio.

Where did you buy this from? Reason I ask is Doug at Custom CB does a TON of 959's with the Viagra board, he uses the lo med hi tone switch for the Viagra boards 3 bands and it works sweet. He could have done it all up right one time and you would never have to touch it.
