galaxy 99

Whats wrong with your local tech 15 ? sure would save you a nice chunk of change as far as shipping costs go.Whats wrong with the 99 ? You seem to do fairly well with your amps 15 , What's up on your radios ?

First question would be what meter are you using? Has the radio ever been tuned? Most Galaxy 99's with a simple tune and alignment will do 30-40 watts. If you start getting exotic and swap out parts 50 watts is possible but not normal. Just be careful of a shop that clips the limiter and then shows you 50 watts on their loooose Dosey. I doubt your friends 99 is really doing 2 swinging 50 unless he had some real work done on it. Even then I'd have to see it on a Bird 43P.

well my local tech sucks lol, he worked on one of my radios and it dont work no more. I use a dosy 4001 meter and i looked inside of radio and it looks like someone was in it. one of the copper coils is streched. There is a shop a few miles away, and they want 85.00 an hour to look whats wrong i think thats 2 much?? anyway i got it used. i might send it to a Tech in washington state. Thanks #15

30, 40, 50 watts with an alignment and tune??? I might have got 2 swinging 30 watts pep with the tommy2watt mods. I sold that radio and some trucker loves it. The 99 has two finals. I never could see how they got 50 watts on a good meter. If it did that many watts i bet it sounded like crap on ssb.

There is a good choice right there, send it to DTB. If it has been tinkered with then you are correct, probably needs a good going through. I had a brand new un-tuned 99 that after just a conversion did 25 watts peak. People on all these forums and shops will throw out wild wattage claims and 80% are BS. Any decent tech with a correct tune and alignment should be able to get you 30-40 Bird 43P peak watts.

auh yes ,the wonderful claims of life , but what the hey , even 85.00 an hour might not be to bad in this day in age . I'd say that was the going rate for a Grant XL / tuned / alighned / and channeled using the 3 switches on the front of the radio and the clairifier opened......Hell !! you can even throw in a NPC mod in. That's about an hours work. Just depends on where you go ? some charge less and some charge more . Mans got to do his homework before he desides to go anywhere. With all these mosfet mods going on ,the power can be there my cb radio friends 3 x mosfets in that radio will do 50 without a sweat !! , that's all there is to it . Alls IM saying here is make damned sure you know what in the hell your talking about before you deside to slander anyone. Alot of these new whipper snapper whiz kids or good at what they do . I only wish the best for you 15. It's you hard earned money and you should get what you pay for , just like everybody else. It's not rocket science , it just helps to get it done the right way to your liking in the end........even then , it's still doesn;t have to be right according to the Einstines of the world , it just has to work for you. Good luck dude. A while back 40/40 did a water gate on me , IM really not trying to pump myself up here but all I was using was an evil swing kit mod on my 83 Cobra 25 LTD on a Cobra XL450 radio does 2 to 22 into a just over 110 watt DK with modultion around 400 .......I personally thought it sounded pretty damned good .....may not of have been perfect by far but it worked and sounded good enough for me . I certainly had no complaints. :)I think the link says it all . Switch Kit

Thanks for all the replys, i think that i will do a npc mod i got all the info and i work on my own radios. so we will see i never worked on a 99 before, should be same as all others lol. and i heard that watergate switch sounds mighty fine to me. 4040 got some good watergates anyway thanks all who reply #15 in Nor-Cal.
