Galaxy Fans 3 new Radios.

The width of a Cobra 29, no FM. Dual Mosfet finals though, and a frequency counter to boot! They are SMD, so hot-air re work station here I come lol!

"DX86V - Fine/coarse Clarifier. . ."
. . . In an AM/only radio?!?
Why bother?
I get the feeling one day a ssb mobile in this form factor will be released, they are probably just using parts they have around already (maybe) to save on production costs across the new model lineup.

Edit: Shout out & props to fourstringburn for bringing to light that the DX86V is a SSB Radio.

I always liked the look of the older versions with the red LED's and clear incandescent meter lamp. These were far easier on the eyes at night when used as a mobile. It's apparent blue lights for everything is here to stay.

I still have my older version DX979 I will hang on to.

I prefer the older ones as well!

This Should Help to Bring Back That OldSchool Feel
  • Grain of Wheat Style Meter Bulb Replacement
  • Red LED Channel Indicator
  • Green/Red RX/TX L.E.D.
  • Red Segments for Freq. Counter
  • Custom "Gamma-Ray" Style Graphic for faceplate
( for Instance: White or Red TXT on a Black Background )
*Maybe a wild, one-off side mic conversion, for that
Complete Late 70's, early 80's, "Oldschool Hammer" Experience.

    *Now Featuring Mosfet Technology*
(y), & Maybe Not The IRF520 Series This Time....

The Blue LED thing is just a fad and will fade away one day God wiling, enough is enough with the blue already. And I.M.O.
Good cheap blue LED's were not around for ages, then the market was flooded one year when people started manufacturing them en mass after the details of the manufacturing process leaked and they no longer were current hungry beasts like they were in the 70/80's, and could be made cheaply so demand skyrocketed, and the color is popular.

But, these days with smd color changing led's they could easily have put a model out there with many a dial/knob/button so that a user can select any color that they like, as you can do on a recent stryker.

If you are into Exports, this new Galaxy is kinda neat in its Own Way. This Radio Could Still Use The Red Color Scheme In My Mind Though, It Would Look Good.

Best Regards

It is everyone's personal preference, but you nailed for what I like!

Couldn't even google search pic of the older Galaxy models so here is mine. I really like the different colors where the Galaxy DX979 logo is blue, the script elsewhere is green, the channel ID is red, and the clear and easy to read grain of wheat lamp for the meter. The pic shows the meter kind of blurry though.

The First Photo Looks Way Better, Here is One Like Mine:
[photo="medium"]4302[/photo] .

Soft on the eyes, and you get the White Meter on RX, and TX its RED :)
This one with red LED segments would be nice, maybe one day.

Robb I like my through hole radios, much easier to repair if you are like me and don't have a hot-air station.
.....but One Day,
We all have to step our hobby game up to SMT, it's 2016 its not gonna go away :[

I like the 979 nice radio. so many locals are going to ham radios on ssb, the uniden 980 is the best for ssb wondering if the new Galaxy rados are going to be on freq and not drift. They are surface mount. They use the 979 size case. The 980 is the best 100.00 radio is what I mean. Looks like the 86V has 3 bands C,D,E, One band up one band down if you use the galaxy chart. The stock pic of the radio shows 28.875 not even on the chart.
