Would anyone have a Galaxy N channel kit with directions they will not be using.
Or the board design so I can breadboard one.
The N kit is used for the 146gtl or the pc122 ssb radios and others that use the same pc board.

Here is a picture of what the board/kit looks like.

Willing to buy one if available or tradeGalaxy N kit.png

So as pictured this is the schematic of the Galaxy N channel kit.
Is this correct as I would like to build a few of these.
I see this schematic on a few sites and was hoping its correct.
Show with a toggle or 3 position rotary switch
Any suggestions?

Has anyone built one to this schematic

My memory is a little hazy, but I think I built that one like 15 years ago and it worked okay in a 146GTL, I’m almost certain that is the same one I built. I made it on perfboard (or maybe the board with the solder pads), with a bunch of jumper wires, which mistakes are easy to do if you make it like this. Not sure I recommend doing it, but perhaps a fun cheap project to try.

So as in post #4 i posted a schematic of the N channel kit.
The directions are for the uniden 144 and a few other sideband radios.

the directions mention it will work in the cobra 29gtl and ltds but does not mention the tie points.
Would anyone have info on the cobra 29 install for the N kit?

thanks

The directions are for the Uniden PC122, all references in the web page are to this.

Uniden PC122 C67.jpg

Pin 10 of the PLL is the 10.240/2 output, or 5.12 MHz. This through C67, goes to the Tripler coil, to generate 15.360 MHz, to mix with the VCO, the PLL locks on the difference frequency, of .910 MHz (CH1) to 1.35 MHz (Ch40).
It says to pull C67, tie the input of this add-on circuit to the Pin10 side of C67, the output of the add-on circuit to where C67 would go to the Tripler coil.
To make the VCO have a greater lock-up range, increase C72 (47pf) by replacing it to a higher value, or adding another capacitor in parallel to it on the solder side of the board. I'd use either a 100pf or higher. You should readjust the VCO coil for lock-up range after increasing C72's value.

By extrapolation, in the Cobra 146GTL or Uniden AX144, C72 is now the Tripler feed cap, and C75 is the VCO increase value cap, again, readjust the VCO coil.

In the Cobra 29GTL/LTD and other generations, C94 feeds the Tripler coil. and C89 needs to be increased in value or paralleled with to increase the VCO lock-up range.

So your saying pullup the c94 leg on pin 10 and put a wire on the leg of c87 and the other on pin 10.
C87 i think put a 100pf cap across c87 to broaden the range is this correct.

No, in the Cobra 29GTL/LTD etc... radio, the input of the board goes to Pin10 where C94 used to be connected to, the capacitor of the output of the 2 ICs goes towards the tripler coil.
C89 is the cap in series with the Varactor Diode, increasing this from 47pf to something higher, or parallel it with a higher value to increase the VCO lockup range.

Here i am back from my triple bypass surgery on 1/7/25.
Been going into the shop to do a few things and I was able to get my N board design kit working. On the second high band will go from ch 60 to 27.885. I tried increasing C89 to a few different higher value ceramic caps. Also tried to parallel some caps and I get nothing on all 3 switch positions. I remove the caps and back working.
So i know the kit is working and should work in the 146gtl and the AX144 also.

So what am i doing wrong with C89 so that the channels will reach 28.045????

thanks

What voltage did you adjust the VCO to be? Should be about 1.5 to 2v on the lowest channel (Ch 1) in RX, VCO should be 16.270 MHz. Then go to the highest channel in TX, the VCO voltage should be less than 5v, even in the "upper channels".

Hi all

I did get my N kit working in the cobra 29LTD ch 27.425-28.045.

Has anyone generated a channel list for this N kit?

Thought i read on this forum that someone made a channel list

thanks

Answering my own question i did find a list here.

Next question. On the Galaxy Expo n kit directions would anyone have the original directions that has a radio list that this kit will work on?
I saw one posted and was very poor quality to read.

thanks
