Galaxy Pluto Clarifier Problem

......I have a GALAXY PLUTO that has already been modified
(***board #E106527 SRF-C 94V-0).

.....The problem is that the clarifier is not sitting at dead center (detent).

Does anyone have the info of which "slug" to adjust to center up the clarifier controls?...Thanks in advance.
 

Do the components on your board look arranged like this? If so; then it is the 3600 series main board. In which case it is the same as a Galaxy 99V and many other export radios. If so; then here is the CB Tricks tune up page for your radio:

Thank you VERY much for the reply....Yes, the board is similar and, the board number I posted was taken directly off of the component side of the board......Assuming we are "on the same page", what would be the adjustment?.....the VCO pot?....."We used to adjust the vco pot to center the clarifier "way back when"......
 
NO . . . NOT the VCO pot!!!!!!

Near the front of the board there are seven tuning coils. There will be a group of four coils on the left very close together - and a group of three on the right with the designations of L26, L27, and L28. We want the group of three on the right for your adjustments.

First center your clarifier knobs.
Then:
adjust LSB with L28
adjust USB with L27
adjust AM with L26

MUST USE A NYLON TOOL FOR ADJUSTING THE SLUGS IN THESE COILS!!!

DO NOT use a jeweler's screwdriver.
You will certainly break the very brittle ferrite tuning slug AND THEN YOU WILL REALLY BE SCREWED!!!!
Do these adjustments at your own risk.

yes, i know...now i have to find my alignment tools!

i was going to use an air ratchet!...ha...yes, i am aware of the possible breaking of the slugs as well as how magnetized or metallic objects affect the coils/tuning.

Greetings all!,

Getting back to this radio -

Question:....

1)... The large knob against the radio face plate, will that adjust BOTH the receive and transmit?....The smaller protruding knob, does that just do the RECEIVE?

2)... I broke out the radio a few days ago and find, that when the LARGE knob is pointing "dead center", my transmit I am told is on frequency...

3)...However, the smaller knob has to be adjusted over to the right to clarify the RECEIVED signal. (re: doing this on LSB)

Regarding my original question of some time ago, should the adjustment made back then rendered both "straight up at center?....I had heard that this radio (Galaxy(s)) drift quite a bit.......PLEASE ADVISE and thanks in advance for any assistance!
 
Before a delve into reading the link, are the knobs SEPARATE in controlling the T+R?
Don't know for certain but that usually depends on whether clarifier has been "unlocked" or not.
A test QSO or two with someone should answer your questions, or reading the manual..............

Thanks again for reply....I opened the cover just a bit ago and centered both clarifiers to center and "tuned", and receive is well...Also, found that ONLY the larger knob/dial alters transmit and that the smaller knob only adjust the receive wit no effect on transmit. (be back in 90 minutes)...
 
That’s usually how a dual clarifier works, one slides and one does not. To be honest you could do a complete alignment on that radio and it won’t solve the problem. That radio will drift like a sailboat on SSB and you will hardly ever be at 12:00 on the clarifier. That’s just how Galaxy export radio’s are on SSB. At this point that is a very old radio, might even needs some or all caps replaced.

I was hunting around for a sledge-hammer and, remembered that I do not own one!...grin...

Anyway, I have the transmit "dead on" and, had the receive the same until the temperature in the room or of the radio changed...

The RECEIVE clarifier is off at 3pm to tune receive ...So, I give up on this for now...

I did read many many years ago that there was a "fix" for stabilization of the freq by using a resistor affixed to a x'tal(??) that, when the radio was turned on, would heat a bit and maintain a near constant temp to that resister and "air" around the x'tal making it "stable"..

Let me shift gears here a moment on 2 other issues....

While beginning to close up the radio, found that my METER LIGHT is now out (#^&*&(&$&*!!!)....I can't see the bulb directly or clearly locate a wire(s) that has possibly pulled off the board.....Is there an easy way to locate the bulb - wires, OR change it out?...

Last but, unrelated issue -
I have a Palomar TX - 150 mobile (transistor) amp that was my deceased friends' amp....I have looked at a schematic on line but, does not indicate the FUSE RATING...I surmise that it should be a 20 amp fuse but, does anyone know for sure? (below is generic pict I pulled off of the net).

The Cobra 150 that I have (Looks basically the same), has a 20 amp fuse when I looked a few moments ago to be sure.

Thanks for the reply.......For a PALOMAR TX-150 amp?......."Cobra" didn't make an amp as far as I know...
