GE 3-5875 SUPERBASE

One word of warning.... Those radios have a ticking time bomb capacitor in them. Look up GE Superbase on YT and watch Mikes Radio Repair. I've had 2 of them. One I had Mike fix (he lives an hour from me) and the second one I did. Both had the specific cap that had leaked and ate away at the traces and other parts. Get it replaced ASAP and maybe a complete recap. They will always be one of my favorite radios!!!!

You mentioned in this post that Mike's Radio repair is about a hour away from you and I have been trying to find Info. on his shop but haven't much success in locating him. Where is he at and is he still active in radio repair. There seems to be a shortage of good radio techs. so could you share some contact info. I have several radio problems I would like to fix. Thanks in advance.

Mike has gone quiet regarding any communication to the radio repair world so unfortunately I cannot be any help here. While I used to have somewhat regular communication with him I have been unable to get ahold of him as well. The only choice I have would be to stop by his house but that is not something I will do because I know he wants to keep his residence private. I do know that he is active on the ham circuit but I have been unable to catch him there either.

Regarding your needs, there are a number of very good techs on this forum. You may want to post a need and see if anyone PM's you about it.

Best,

881 It was a pleasure meeting you yesterday and spending time with a fellow radio Buff. You are a credit to our species ! I've noticed there is a lot of radio equipment for sale in your area. Anyway Thanks again and happy DXing. I'll keep my ears open for you if skip opens up again.

Thank you and enjoy the SUPERBASE!

Yeah there is a shortage of good radio techs, we can't afford to lose any more. I believe Mike would have been in my driving distance.

I have the ge 3 5871b and cannot find any pll info on it anywhere including cb tricks which is down right now anyways but the radio doesnt exist its a big fuckin secret
I don't know why it is such a secret, I do know that it works great with my 2-pill Fat-Cat amp.

If it's the SL1626C chip you could try ripping one out of a TRC-448. Doesn't do the 448 much good, though.

Mike's Radio Repair is near the southern PA border in Warfordsburg PA.. Unsure if he is still working on much in CB/Ham Radio anymore, after he got his new
Rohde & Schwarz test set, this was his last video. April 2019.

I believe he switched to mainly working on commercial business band, public service radio equipment.

Sounds like he might be bored with plain old CB work. It's a free country he can pick and choose. His gain is our loss!
