I know I have a tendency to post a few threads asking for opinions. Today on my way to work, I got struck in a line up behind a traffic accident on I-79 and had to ask what was going on. I was happy there were a few drivers that spoke English, as a first language, on 19 on a Saturday. Talking on a CB, setting up antennas, doing mobile installs, matching antennas, upgrades, restoring classic radios, setting up base stations, helping other with radio equipment is all just plain fun and enjoyment for me. We all have hobbies, ours just brings a smile to me- just like today or any other day. Today, keyed up the mini Stryker, "89MC v2- first 10 meter for me," and in my mind I was that 9 year old boy talking on a 23 channel Robyn, with my dads permission of course, in his 1980 Suburban. My dad pulled a 19 foot Wilderness camper with the Suburban, so all the family that went camping with us had CBs in their vehicles. The local channel around Washington PA area was 3. Most of my dads friends had a base station too. We had a 23 channel Royce base that set next to the TV in the family room. He would turn in on in the evening. My mother wound turn it down. A couple years ago I picked up a Cobra 29 with the old style Cobra power mic, 40 channel. When I finally opened the box I was surprised that the screws had never been removed from the covers, she was a virgin. In my mind all I could imagine was that someone worked hard and saved, back in 1977 to buy himself a new cobra 29.

Great story. (y)
I miss the CB craze of the 70s and 80s. Luckily, a while back while scanning 11 meters on my Yaesu, I came across a group of locals who talk every night. Bought myself a CB and and am now a part of the group. Loads of fun and brings back memories.

All nicely said, OP.

Our family trips which included me ended circa 1976. USA, Canada and Mexico. 3-4 week trips. CB popularity had barely hit. I do remember my Dad being disappointed in the lack of discipline (WWII then civilian pilot) so he didn’t add one. He carried a handheld in the car. But his all-aluminum Silver Streak had an awesome Johnson Messenger.

I bought a very nice Robyn almost identical to the one shown a couple of years ago to mount in my Silver Streak . Had Dad gotten bit, I like to think it’s the one he’d have chosen for his car.

This year marks ten since he caught the last flight out.

You were happy they spoke English. I feel like a foreigner sometimes too. It’s a sad day when as Americans we feel that way. Even the Cb channels are full of non- English speaking people it’s getting to be like a wal mart

Awesome. A couple of my coworkers and I hang out on 25 while we're trucking around the local area. About 6 months ago, at my last job, there were some of us that hung out on 3 as well. I can't wait until the last of the cold weather is gone so I can put my 11m base antenna back up. I miss being able to talk on 11m from the house. If you hear me on the air around the area, give me a shout. (y)
