Well 2 actually....

A buddy of mine (also into radio) recently acquired 3 CB radios for free....one of them a Unic (never heard of them), one a Midland and then a Gemtronics. He kept the Unic and gave me the other 2.

The Midland is just a rinky-dink little radio....but this one....is a little interesting. It's made by Gemtronics. (never heard of them before until now) It's a GT-44. This is a rotary dial 40 channel CB. It looks to be the same size as a Cobra 25/Uniden 68 chassis.

I can't seem to find much on this radio, other than it appears to be built around the 1978 time frame. Maybe someone could take a look at the pics and shed some light?

I am presuming you are referring to the towers in the rear on picture 6?

I have a 23 chaN. somewhere and its class C

Wasn't class C supposed to be for model airplanes and such to run off of, and class D anything built after 1958?

Lots of channels available of the PLL.

Oh cool...wasn't aware of that. Any idea what other frequencies I could get out of it?

That's how I remember.

It is not in a "section" by itself. You will have to read, not do a quick glance through.

Started out as A band moved and now Class B.

Disturbing:

Most of what you hear on CB radio is either tedious (truck drivers warning one another about speed traps) or banal (schoolgirls exchanging notes on homework), but at its occasional —and illegal—worst it sinks a pipeline to the depths of the American unconscious. Your ears are assaulted by the sound of racism at its most rampant, and by masturbation fantasies that are the aural equivalent of rape. The sleep of reason, to quote Goya’s phrase, brings forth monsters, and the anonymity of CB encourages the monsters to emerge. [10]

I'm thinking class A were the early base units and class B were the hand helds.

I'm pretty sure someone just made that up; most school girls these days probably don't even know what a CB is....texting, now that's another story.

"Sexting" lol

So here's my dumb question of the day....I am curious as to if this brand of radios were a good brand or a junk brand? As mentioned it is the size of a Cobra 25.
