Hello, I am new to the boards and have had some experience with CB Radios quite awhile ago and want to get back into them. I have the opportunity to purchase a NIB Grant LT. It is from a reputable source but priced at $250. I know it's high, but based on its reputation is it worth it? Thanks in advance for your opinions.

new in the box ? never touched ? that would just depend on who you were and how much money you could spare to spend ? It's not worth 250.00 to me but that don't mean somebody else who has the money and knows the radio were 250.00 wasn't nothing to them. I think 175.00 would be a fair offer for it depending on how much one may want it ? .......I'd say good luck getting it for any less then that. they don't make them anymore and as you said , mint new in the box. I would personally think 150.00 would be a steal on it !! but folks tend not to want to pay a fair price for a fair priced radio or amp , it's no deal to them unless it's basically given away..lets say he had 100.00 on the radio on any forum board on the internet ,I would bet to say that it would be gone within a few hours or so or even less. I personally would call that a give it away price. Hell !!! I know what that's like. But not everyone has extra stashes of cash lying around for cb play time. 250.00 pretty steep on that one ,but it's not hard for me to believe .....I see what people pay for tubes all the time .....as far as IM personally concerned about that ? that's insane to me !! or prices charged to fix this and tune that and install this , it just depends on how one looks at it or even cares.

i dont think its that great of a radio. its still just a 40 channel sideband low power radio. i have had a lot of 148's and grants over the years and i dont view them as anything special. ya they sound good tuned up but there still limited. now if it were a 148f it might be worth it. at least than you get a frequency counter. for 250 you might as well get some additional power with an export.

So let me take a shot at what you are saying. You are willing to give up build quality, component quality, transmit and receive quality, all for a low quality freq counter?

Thanks for your help. The seller doesn't need to sell it and is "waiting." I want a radio w/ssb so I will probably go with a new 148 or 959....any other suggestions?

The frequency counter is needed to watch it as the frequency drifts this way and that way.....

from what IM led to believe , the LT didn't drift ? I know damned well the Grant XLs were very solid as well, just sold a 1990 cobra 148 gtl that had around 23 khz's of slide on it ,touchy yes as far as clarifing went ,but that sucker would lock solid on freq !! no drift what so ever that I or whomever it was i was talking to at the time could hear , LT was the last model that i never personally had the opertunaty to own one , but from what i understand it was the same as the XLs ....Those radios were known for there great receive sections....solid all the way around as far as IM concerned. I only got 100.00 bucks for my 1990 148GTL which was very close to mint and nowhere near abused. I would have loved to have been able to put it in a box and save it for a rainy day , but money was funny and mans got to do what mans got to do. As far as IM concerned , if it would have been me looking for one like that ,i would have gladley gave 150.00 for that one myself. But again .....it depends on what one wants and what one is willing to pay if it means that much to them. This thread was put in the cb section of this Forum ,not the export ....you want to talk 10 meter converts ? I think what were talking about here are cb radios. (-: and that's basically all I use. The wham wham's and zoo zoo's are really nice on radios and freq counters can surely be a plus ,but they are truly not needed for a radio to do what they can do without one.Theres' alot of mobile type radios out there that i really like , but I think i prefer them sitting on a desk top running off a power supply rather then vibrating down the road in my motor car. Like my 148GTL ...it was never in a motor car ,it was used strickly for a base unit, but hey !! with 23khz's of slide ,I think that was better suited for a base station all the same. Good ole vibration can cause problems in that case. (-:

copy on that ! The new 148s huh ? Hmmmm I remember back in the early 90's when Joe at J&S cb radios said that it would just be a matter of time before they would start making cb radios less reliable and not as good as they once were , his idea back then, that it had something to do with FCC regulations and "them" having it there ways ? , but all these years later it seems to be more so manufactures decsions ....but then again whos to say that they don't work hand and hand all the same ? Why in the hell would Uniden stop making there best AM/SSB cb radio maybe of all time only a few years back now ? Dying breed maybe ? I really don't know ? Now I've even experianced some of the new 148s and after a little work on them ,I thought they were fairly decent and they can still be channeled off the pll's. I realize cb is still much bigger in other states ,but am i the only one out here in the Los angeles area to experiance the major decline in cb radio use along with it's users ? 20 years around this hobby and it isn't nothing close to what it once was in popularity. dying breed ? ...well they been saying that since disco went out in the late 70's , but even discos still around if that's what one is looking for , I think the same goes for cb radio as well. I think in the autmost end ,the truckers will have there last say ,seems to me that they brought it in and they will more then likely take it out with them ,if and when that was ever to take place ? what shops are left are right next store to truck stops , so who really helps them to keep there doors open ? ...they more then likely wouldn't admit it anyway. Well it looks like IM off thread again 0H-NO !! my bad !! (-: oh ...there's still good cb's made today , but if cobra and uniden once sat up on top of the world as far as the best , I think that has unfortunately come and gone.

Blame it on the people buying the import (export) crap! Uniden can't compete and it became clear to them that they should stop wasting their time. There is still a market for AM only radios however. RCI has done more to HURT CB radio than anyone. Peng has filled his pockets with your money, given you crap in return, and you keep going back for more!

Peng said, "You stupid stupid Ame-l-icans! I give you shit and you eat it up! I make mo-l-e shit and you eat it up. I keep giving you shit as long as you keep buying!

I can't tell ya how many friends I've got that love "RCI" or love "Galaxy" and it seems like whenever I talk with them, the last "new" one is in the shop, so they went out and bought another....Lemmings
