Ham exam...

I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but...

no online testing? I've got spinal cord damage, so while going out is an option, it's not a very good option.
I'll do it if I have to, but an online test would be so much better.
but there isn't, is there?

I'm doing OK on the technician sample tests, and I don't even have the ARRL book yet. I haven't done too well, but I haven't failed one (out of 3) yet.

No online testing. It can be done with a volunteer examiner however. Contact your local ham club and explain things. One of the examiners may even be willing to come to your place to give the exam if that is acceptable to you.

Where in MI are you? I'm in Zeeland and used to be a VE. I may be able to help you locate some VE's or testing in your area.

Nope, no on-line testing. It's certainly possible for the Ve's to come to you, though. Just depends on how scheduling works out. Ask your local club/Ve's if they'll do that. Some will, some can't.

IMHO an online test leads to cheating. Anyone that would have to cheat to get a current amateur tech ticket is someone I definitely do NOT want on the bands. The knowledge required now is so very basic that the next step is to just hand out tickets on the street corner. Again, IMHO. YMMV.

I was proud 35 years ago but now I go into an elaborate explanation about the difference between CB and Amateur Radio whenever someone asks about the antennas on my truck.

I don't know about that but some of the questions I see extra class operators ask makes me embarrassed to be a ham. But then I stop and remember that I passed the Canadian Advanced exam back in 1989 when things were a LOT different.

I said before I wouldn't go down that road again but the bridge was out and I had to detour.

There is no online testing. However, it might be possible for a VE to come to your residence and administer a test to you. Look online to see if any HAM clubs exist in your area.
