Ham gear on lower side band 38

FT-857D is general coverage but rarely gets used on HF let alone 11m. (twice)
Uniden Tempo 2020's will all do 11m.
Is the HR-2510 a ham radio?

I use CB for CB. My uPD858 chassis serve as a platform for various 10/11m.
TRC-457,458,449. 139XLR, 138XLR, and a Robyn 510D.

I have one TRC-458 and one 142-GTL part 95, class D legal (for obvious reasons) in the shack.

All my monoband 11m hollow and sand state toys are collecting dust.

I also have a heavily squelched POS left on either 27.025 or 27'385 (think it "was" a Kraco 4007) that rectifies audio output to a big LED. It's my "skip indicator".

Ham for ham, CB for CB.

It's a different story when I'm mobile.

They were talking about when they were going to meet on the other bands. I keyed up to say hi and I blew a 4 amp fuse in my cord. I guess FM takes a lot of power. Haha

It takes no more than the peak power on AM or SSB for any given amount of watts. It does however draw that constantly on transmit whereas AM and SSB will be up and down as you talk.

Freebanders use more than one band. They've started to use some questionable spaces on places like 4MHz where long range aeronautical channels are. It seems they don't give a shit that there are actually legitimate users on those bands they choose, they just don't hear anyone when they listen so assume they can take them over.

Hey all good, No beef, I was just surprised that Hams would use 27 mhz, I thought they would have other bands more suitable. My question was , why would ham guys WANT to run on 27 mhz
It's mainly because the C.B. band is another radio service. I have an Extra ham ticket and use about every radio service legally available to citizens simply because it's there. I see it as a radio service and not a club. Just my thought. :)

I was just off the lower 38, skip had just gone out, two fellows started up on some ham gear, sounded really good, so I listened in for a while till they got to there gear, one fellow was running a Yaesu FT-101 260 watts of pep says wiki. Do many people do this?? Run ham gear on cb. Why would ham guys want to run on 27 mhz?

I have owned several Yaesu FT-101 models & NONE of them did anywhere near 260 watts unless it was input power.I was so happy when I sold them since they were always requiring work of some kind or another. Many people use Ham Radio gear on 11 meters & have for many many years. Also you don't need to be a Ham Operator to own any ham radio gear so they may not even be a ham operator at all.

Cool, I wish I new more about ham. I really enjoy the cb, but if it wasn't for skip there would be zip. I don't think ham is much better up here in my neck of the woods. I knw we have a repeater. I have no interest in this at all. To me that's just cell phone. I like the idea of radio. Radio to radio, nothing in between. So far quite happy with cb radio. My only wish is more people get involved. I am doing what I can to get a few guys up and running. If I had half a dozen locals I would be quite happy. As it stands there is nobody. I can spin the dial on every channel am/ssb, on a non skip day, and find nothing but a local gravel truck loading, for days.

You would find operators all over the world on 20 meters in the day time & 40 meters at night.Always somebody on the ham bands somewhere unlike 11 meters.

Please bring that LSB traffic to 27.155. Plenty of folks on 38lsb. And the gentleman from the north that said 30 lsb for barefoot(12w no switch flipping). I have not made many contacts on 16lsb and none on 30 but they were very pleasant although quick. I am barefoot on 16 with my calls. If they say I am low(which means I can hear them, not often with our current conditions), then I flip the switch for the contact(then back to standby/off).
