Have you purchased ham gear because of this site? What was it?

I have based on a lot of researching and on Moleculo review on the VX-8R with the APRS . I'm glad i got that radio . Thanks to yall for a great site for the reviews and help , tips and other things i forgot to say . CJ "Railham" G.

With all of the information and reviews that members post about ham radio equipment on this site, I started wondering just how much these topics have influenced others to buy. So, I figured it would be fun to find out!

If you've purchased a piece of ham radio equipment and were influenced to do so because of this site, what was it?

I read a lot of different reviews from various sites, and I have to say the information on this site in regard to the Yaesu FTM-350R (AR), certainly was a factor in my decision to purchase that particular radio.

Specifically, I saved a significant amount of cash by purchasing the FTM-350R on close-out when the AR version was being released, because I was armed with the knowledge from this site that I could bring the firmware in the R up to the same specs as the AR. So Thanks! (y)

WorldWideDX had, hands-down, the best information and review on the radio; the best, least judgemental discussions; and the best pictures.

So useful, in fact, that after spending $700 on radio equipment, I donated another $15 to the site. So should you.

Well let's see... Because of your site, I finally pulled the trigger and crossed "Ham ticket" off my bucket list seven months ago. Since getting my license in May, I've purchased an HF/VHF radio, two VHF/UHF mobiles, two VHF/UHF HT's, a 10m mobile, amp, tuner, power supply, meters, seven antennas, and hundreds of feet of wire and co-ax, connectors, etc...

Yes, your site has helped the economy. Had I not found it, I'd still be another one of those guys that LOVED CB as a kid and just never got around to getting the license to take it to the next level. Thanks. Thanks a TON!

My wife wishes I'd never found worldwidedx.com

Edit/Add - Oh yeah, and a recent battle with a balun caused a trip to the ER, allowing me to put another $1000 back in to the economy in the name of ham radio. lol

I also was the same a "CBr" when I first came to this site...
Was poked and prodded to get my ticket and so I did.
Since then I have aquired a complete Yaesu FL 101 FR 101d twins with matching scope and dummy load A Henry 2K(rebuilding), A bigger tower 5 element Tri-band beam, TS 430S also a 2 meter rig and that was just the start...
I just posted about 2 different rigs for mobile operation and the responce was a split vote between them... So I found a deal on both units and got them also.. TS 50S and a 706M11G with auto tuner..(glad I sold one of my cars for funding)

So yes This forum is a real BAD INFLUENCE on letting that radio bug bite REAL HARD on unsuspecting CB type people... Glad I made it here

And the radio bug NEVER stops biting

Oh yeah, this tread... How timely.

I just added another chunk to my total due to the "WorldwideDX Amateur Radio Club" D-Star Repeater. Should have my IC-2820H with the D-Star module tomorrow if UPS is on their game.

And Mole keeps saying "when are you gonna get your General?". Dude, yer killin' me here...

Ham radio license: A public ham demo event in The Villages at the end of last year reminded me that getting a license is something I wanted to do for 40 years except for the previously required morse code.

Which radio: This is the best organized, most helpful site on the web. A lot of helpful, non-judgemental, polite people reply quickly. Actually, so far it appears most of this hobby is like that. I constrast that with the photography forums which to me seem more harshly critical than really helpful. I find that disconcerting for something that is so artistically subjective.

Ham, on the other hand, primarily thrives on learning and experimentation and sharing ideas and methods. If someone wants to wrap a wire around the perimeter of their house as an antenna, folks say "go for it - and let us know how it turns out."(y)

While opinions vary (expected and welcomed), this site certainly provides helpful feedback on the direction amateur amateurs are considering in their purchase of equipment.

Yes, I got the Kenwood radios in part because of this site as well as the experience of several local hams who have Kenwoods. The comments on this site were part of the mix.

The characteristics of the Kenwoods that influenced me from this site are the Kenwood feature set (APRS; TNC; broadband HT) reliablity, completeness of instructions and logical organization of the interface menu system.

OK . . . I'll cop to it . . .

Bought a Beofeng UV-5R 2m/70cm handy-talky while reading the thread/review of that same name.
Never was interested in HT's at all before. But for the price that HT sold for - plus the fact that others already had bought, tried, and liked it - I thought it was worth the risk.

After reading the review of the Baofeng UV-3R I ordered up one from The 409 shop

as a "present" to myself, It's GREAT ! Does everything I want it to, and more. It is

very light and easy to carry around, now,, I'm looking at the UV-5R but, I think I'll

wait a bit to see if they fix a couple of the "bugs" first.

Thanks for doing the reviews of the radios, it helps a lot.

My first radio was a Yaesu ft 8800 that I bought because of a recommendation from Acidrod, Mark. My base station unit is a Yaesu FT 897D. After reading Tim's review, I made the purchase. Nice rig and portable also. That part I like a lot.
