Hbvc9 antenna

Quote:
"Despite these laudable properties, extensive modeling and model testing shows that the claims of gains above 7 dBi free space are supported only by faulty models to this point in the testing process. With a front-to-back (or front-to-rear) ratio of about 20 dB as a cut-off point for minimal rearward performance, gains have only approached 6.6 dBi maximum in all models tested"

Brother, I am not trying to bust your bubble, I am just trying to show you reasonable expectations of the project.
I commend you for building it!!!!(y):D
I am just saying don't fall into the hole where some do.
(For ex. the A99 antenna having 6DB gain) :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
The 5/8 wave GP increasing one's signal 3 "S" units 30 miles away over a vertical dipole at same tip height.:LOL:
I use a W8JK antenna I built for 80/40 meters...125 ft. long EACH element with 34ft spacing @40+ft. I can attest the 2 element works, and works VERY well.
I however am much more realistic, after testing against a reference dipole at same height the real gain is more like 4 DBd for the 2 elements.
Enjoy it ... Have fun ...Happy Holidays
All the Best
Gary

Dunno man. Call it ugly construction. Finally tuned it for verticle. What a pain. Back and forth. Back and forth. Too many adjustments can be made at once. Size wise though it seems to work well. It tunes well after you get it going the right way. Bandwidth is wife enough. It's a toy. I'll try it and tear it apart like I did the astroplane.

I can see why tuning that was an issue. Vertical configuration will through it out of whack, not to mention close proximity to house and the mounting pole. Those are made to be Horizontal, and mounted a minimum of like 17 ft to the boom.
Well, you got it done, now roll that Horizontal, get above the roof line and watch it sing!!!

I had it tuned horz to begin with then turned it to see what happened. Major issues. But it was expected. I noted all measurements before I turned it. I've a .64 sitting around 50ft to the base that shows a 7 on my local guy. This beam sitting with the longest element 7ft off the ground is showing a 6. So not too shabby so far. I'll play with it on very then flip it. Prob keep it flat in the end
