I have a connex cx-4400 HP the RX volume is very low on it even with the volume turned up all the way And when transmitting the S-meter light is getting dim and flickers when you talk. I checked the voltage regulator and it is ok. The radio Tx power is ok and every thing is working.Just low volume on RX. On INT: SP and EXT: SP 73s HANK

A few things to check....
Check where that S meter light is getting its voltage from... thats a hint if its flickering... its telling you that its not getting a steady voltage.
Check the voltage at the audio IC....
If you have good modulation/swing the audio IC might not be the problem.
Check the wires on the back of the volume pot.
Jump out the volume pot ... the radio should put out full volume. There are 3 wires... 1 to ground...1 input... and 1 output.. jump the input to the output and the radio will shoot out full volume.... if it does the problem is the volume pot.

Get another speaker with 2 wire soldered on it.... solder one wire to ground on the radio ( board ground) and with the other touch it to where the speaker wires are soldered to on the board. If the volume is still low... move down the trace a bit toward the audio IC and touch it again to a solder spot.... what your doing is tracing the audio back from the speaker to the output of the audio IC. Make sure everything is good from the audio IC to the speaker.

Theres some things to check out... hopefully they will point you toward what the problem is.
If the radio is recieving pretty good... but the volume is low you check from volume pot, to audio IC, then to the speakers...
