Helping the cb revival along

I hope that 11 meters can be raised from the dead but it will take the MFG to produce quality equipment again and unless there is a demand that will not happen. The current crop of "exports" do not count, they illegal to use anyway. President, Uniden, and Cobra all need to get back to what they used to do and not the crap they produce today.

w9 , That's why I still use my old Cobra 2k , believe me I have/had help my Old Grey amp needs some tending to , I'm ampless in Ri ! Don't start I know that's the way 11m is supposed to be . But my 2k puts out a whopping 11w on Am . I'm a bad boy !:LOL: Actually have a 99v , anyone that knows me knows I have it , sent it out had it Refreshed & never tried it . Just me being a dumb Swamp Yankee ! It was free , not a fan of Galaxy's but I have one !:eek:

This thread actually inspired me......
I took an SO-239, made the cheapest nastiest inverted V you have ever seen..
Took it out and looped it over a tree branch about 12 feet up....
Dragged out my old Sears Roadtalker 40 SSB and hooked it up.....
And actually HEARD something on Ch 19!!!!!! I think the radio is a little weak...possibly needs a recap and alignment....
But this was fun!!!!!

You know I think you are correct I have been giving a great deal of thought the last several years on how more interest could be encouraged in the area of CB radio especially in the mobile arena. Although base setups are just as important in the whole of the idea I would suggest the mobile approach the first step. Maybe if we can others on board I would be willing to take on a certain amount of radio service a greatly reduced rate just a few a month to help encourage someone to give it a try and maybe set a trend. It's hard in the day of Cellphones to convince someone that CB is even worth consideration but if they could be shown in some way the error of there thought it may make a difference.
Trying to get people interested in CB as a hobby in my small town was extremely difficult. The hobby aspect of CB has largely vanished, but fortunately the business use of CB still has a small foothold. I stopped giving radios away for free among relatives and friends. Those efforts mostly failed to instill the old school “hobby” part of CB communications that I wanted. As you know, the new hobby is all about exercising your thumbs without having any peripheral vision. In other words, I found prioritizing the hobby aspect before business is like placing cart before the horse. Case in point: Several large gravel pits in our area have attracted simi trucks from all over, and even small pickups from local users. It didn’t take them long to discover that CB coordination became a necessity in order to maneuver yourself into position. All the different sizes and types of gravel one may want required that coordination, and CB was the perfect tool. This business has also created a spinoff of users into the CB hobby world. The point is you first need to promote a legitimate purpose for having a CB. The desired hobby effect will hopefully be the residual result. This “business first” sequence is exactly what happened when CB was first introduced years ago.

I could not agree more finding a need and filling it is what any business should be about and I was not suggesting that your approach would not be a way to go I have installed several base operations for gravel pits and they were all a success and did spawn more interest as the truck drivers got some of there friends involved and so on. In other words, whatever works in the area you live or work will not always work in every area there is also the finding the need for anyone to get involved in something most now would say well why I have a cell phone what good is a CB or anything that doesn't have internet attached? Those are the people that need to be schooled on the end of the world communications devices and schooled on how easy it is to find yourself in a situation that only a CB or something like it could get out of when the Cell tower goes south! Not an easy concept to get across but it can be done.

Yes the prepper angle seems to be good, as prepping is popular. Yes the only people on the air here are gravel trucks and the marble mine trucks, those guys are not much for talkin, will give me radio checks for sure. I hear a few long haul guys going by once in a while on lsb 38. Thank goodness for skip! Laughs. That is why I liking hanging out here with you radio heads. This is the best cb forum on the web, smart guys, who like talkin cb radio. I lurked here doing my antenna research for months, you guys came up on google on every search, so once I had my gear in place, I signed on to take part. Everyone here has been amazing. Your all a credit to radio, and what radio is all about. Cheers to all of ya.

I think it is a great idea as well.

Look at the Anytone Smart CB.. it is $60 on Amazon.
The thing is SMALL, AM/FM, and does Legal limit. However, It does require a mod to get to to 11 Meters (it is sold as a 10 Meter radio).

Great little rig, I have 1 that I take in rental cars

The current state of CB is pretty sad, and I think it is hard to get the younger generation interested in CB because of.. Cell phones... and the radio hobby requires a bit of thought...

The AnyTone Smart is actually configurable to 11 meters only, 10 Meters, Or 25.615-30 Mhz

It is a 4 W AM radio that runs great, However, it isn't FCC Type Excepted (big whoop!)...

11 meter manufactures are not going to go back to making "decent Equipment" again... if they can't sell it... Which goes back to the original subject of this Thread... Reviving the CB Band

I'd love a Modern 4W/12W AM/SSB rig... but who makes those these days?

FCC Approved... the Uniden 980SSB...

any other?

Well I run a 980, like the radio, has good receive, the send is ahhhhhh ok. I did give it a little, tiny tune, but there was not much to be gained, in fact had to nudge it back down. Had to cut the beep out of her, whoever thinks a radio should beep, in your headphones with no volume control can't be thinking. I had an anytone dualer, more beeps and menus than I could stand. The 980 has the features I like, is easy to menu, new ones have a beep off button, so more radios like this, with a little more zip, I think the fcc should help cb , there letting other bands have watts, I think cb could have export power, most are doing it anyway. The real way to revive this would be 60 watt cb radios. The fcc seems to not really worry about this band , so let us have some legal watts to get the local up to 50 miles or so ,This would put some new reasons to purchase back on the shelf. I would be at the counter money in hand by morning open.
