I want to become a Ham radio operator, but the only experience I have with any communications radio is from my CB and my friend's FRS radio set. I realize Ham systems are much more complex than both of these, and I was wondering if nyone could explain them to me. Also, I have considered buying one but they seem fairly expensive, with the cheapest I've found so far being on sale at Radio Shack for 99 dollars American currency

Thank you,

hi all

Get the book from Radio Shack and study it a few weeks. The test is pretty easy compared to what the book says it will be.I just got my license and it wasn't bad at all. These forums help out a good bit too as far as terminology and theory go.Good luck to you!

Re: hi all

I agree the ARRL has all kinds publications but they do tend to get a little busy at times. The Rat Shack version is pretty good. Just dont bother to ask questions. Remeber Rat Shacks motto "you have questions we have blank stares" then try to sell you a cell phone, with 10% off if you sign up for a credit card. Oh and dont forget the MSN internet offer.
