Edmonton, Alberta.
Hey guys I am new here from Alberta. Getting back into cb radio after 30 years hiatus. Pondering whether to buy a Uniden 787, 880, 980, Cobra 29 LX, 148, or a good Galaxy. Never did sideband before, maybe that would be fun this time. Don't need a power mike, maybe a good Astatic nc mike will work well in my older Outback.

Thinking of a good five foot antenna in the back-center of the roof for good range, maybe one of those mid coil jobs.

It's not easy getting these antennas recommended. My installer took a look today at the Outback for room- it's gonna be tight. He's not sure he can get a Wilson never mind some exotic from Italy... Lol

I am just off 17th street in south-east Edmonton. I am still trying to settle which radio to get which antenna, and mike too. I plan to use Aidrow Installations to do the supply and install. I sure would like to meet and have a coffee sometime soon. :) Where is Strathmore?

I think the 980 is a great radio , however she's doesn't have much in the way of modulation, for what you can purchase one of those for you should be able to score a 959 galaxy or 44v something along that line dual finale radio and modulation monster ! That's just my 2 cents , I'm not a galaxy fine either but those are talking radios

Strathmore is 50K east of Calgary on the #1

When you are ready to setup a base station at home, I have a few vintage CB radio's that I have re-worked and are ready to go; Cobra 142, Uniden Madison, Colt Excalibur and some others I'm still working on. I am only a few blocks away from you in south Edmonton.

Hi K Mike, Thaniks for the update, I am thinking of a base in the future, perhaps this coming summer. I will take a look at the models you mentioned thanks. I like good but old, I have two really good stereos using some of the better 70's equipment and love it.
