Thanks again. Well, the more I look at this radio, the more I am inclined to keep it. I was going to UNmodify it back to stock and then sell it, but the more I'm reading about it, I may just leave everything as-is. I mostly use it with a receive converter to listen to the shortwave bands and it has always done that very well because the noise blanker is far and above even most ham radios.
The idea was to sell this unit and keep the Superstar 3900 and use it with the receive converter. Would be a lot less switching to get all the shortwave bands I like. However, brief testing is showing some drifting with the 3900. It has a FC347 frequency counter that plugs into it, but I find it drifting at least 1/2 Kc after 30 min turned on. The 3900 is the Malaysian unit too. I thought those weren't supposed to drift. This won't do well with the converter since some of the shortwave stations are SSB and drifting won't be good for those. The Grant doesn't drift.
Speaking of the 347 counter, I think I know how to hook this up to the Grant, but is there some sort of adapter I need? With the 3900, it just plugs in the back, but the Grant is going to need something else. Any thoughts there welcome.
