High SWR on A/S Super Magnum III Antenna

First things First I have an Antenna Specialist Super Magnum III M-117 (about 55 years old) with very high SWR. I inherited this antenna from my father's collection it had not been used for 28 years but it was stored up in the rafters of his shop. I reassembled it at my place on twenty foot pole and it worked great until the recent monsoons came through. So I took the Antenna Coil a part and it was full of water, I suspect that is causing the high SWR. My question should I even attempt to seal up coil with RTV, Shrink Tubing, and or High Electrical Tape. I welcome all ideas because ya'll are seasoned veterans of the radio world. Thanks Chris

I had that antenna. The cover is supposed to already have a drain hole. Maybe the hole has dirt, spiderwebs. Remove the cover and clean it inside. Verify the coil as well.

Also, a drain hole on the middle of the first aluminum section.

The picture will be helpful for you to see how it is supposed to be inside.

Alexis Thank you, my antenna doesn't look near as good as your picture. I will check continuity and the general condition of the coil. The local antenna guru suggested that I use GOOD electrical tape at every joint along with zip ties to shed rain off the vertical mast. Do you fellows think that the taping is a good or bad idea and if so why. I am just searching for the solution to the problem. Thank you Chris M.
