High SWR

View attachment 38359 View attachment 38360 View attachment 38361 So I got the tuner today and tuned the antenna it was off and the guy did have a cheap meter but he got me in the ballpark here are a few pictures need to do research on what the other numbers mean.
Look at the corrosion on this whip. I did not tune the whip it is too long I only tuned the Francis antenna. I did put the whip on and did not feel like dealing with it today

Looks to me like you’ve got some very nice results with your new analyzer.

Good job.

... EDIT...Chapter 3 of the ARRL Antenna Book on RF grounding has a nice chart showing how as you improve your RF ground the resonant frequency of the antenna drops for a fixed length of antenna... .

(y)(y).. A little late to the party (so to say), and as the antenna becomes more EFFICIENT due to properly designed radials, the VSWR will rise.

Yes hustler antenna. Emailed company I bought it from and they want me to cut off 6 inches of the bottom and send it to them. They are going to replace it. Didn’t get hot. Only have the barefoot Stryker 955hp. Had a huge lightning storms. Might have got struck. Everything else works fine so don’t think that was it. I think piss poor quality.

As much as I want to say take the free replacement...I don’t know if I would do that even if they offered to me.

Chances are the new one will be the same material. Better bet would be to chop and use a riser of a known alloy (what I’ll probably do).

The whip was new. That’s the crazy part. It is only a week old.

Being nearer the refineries in Corpus after divorce my pickup underside rusted fast (a-arms, axle, etc). Factory body paint was fine.

Humidity plus god-knows-what hanging in air every morning. Constant year-round heavy morning moisture.

A trip thru Corpus Christi in the mid-1970s (Padre Island) far from the refineries (several of the world’s largest ) but wrong wind direction caused rust to surface on areas of chrome I wasn’t expecting it. The fixed 31” FM factory aerial & body-mount bezel got my attention.

The Texas Gulf Coast (if that’s where you are: Port Arthur mentioned) can be tough.

Hell, Redbeard U-812 is down in Port Lavaca rusted in place like the Tiin Man in, The Wizard of Oz. Dropped his cordless Uniden mic, reached, and never made it back erect. Being topped by a fast-growing Covid Smilax
vine.

A few local truck drivers daily made fun of his garbled syntax till rain got the 980 thru the kitchen door the first week.

Corroded. Not rusted. Even the Breedlove mount has minor corrosion. Getting a different mount from geotool. His mounts look nice. I wish I would’ve seen it first. Breedlove mount does not have a good fit and finish. I hate to keep dumping $$ into it but want it right.

It sat angled in the stake pocket. Ordered one from geotool we will see. The mount started to corrode also. I know it’s the area. Got some work to do on the rig on Tuesday. Mount will be in and going to tune everything one more time. Love the analyzer.

does anyone tune coax for your frequency?
Mine shows it’s low. 30 feet lmr400 shows 12.45 MHz. It’s long but I only have 2 feet maybe extra.

That’s what I thought. Couldn’t get it to 0. I’ll try again.

in this case (X = -6.11 ohms) the antenna is capacitively reactive @ 27.185 mhz.. the antenna is resonant somewhere ABOVE 27.185 mhz. the antenna is TOO SHORT for X=0 @ 27.185 mhz.. capacitive reactance can be cancelled and X set to 0 by adding inductance, i.e., lengthening the antenna and moving resonance to lower operating frequencies.

furthermore. a 102" steel whip without the hd ball and spring which constitute the other 6.5" of additional length required (or some other type of extension) will not be resonant in the citizens band.

depending on installation (stake pocket mounts here are a big mistake) i've seen the 102" whip resonant everywhere from 27.555 - 28.955 mhz. but never once in the citizens band.
